Tales of the Traveling Tote: March 1, 2020

Happy March, My Lovelies!

Welcome to another Tales of the Traveling Tote post.  We have been in Alabama since my last post in December, enjoying the holidays with family and friends, and preparing for Shanley Belle and Christopher's wedding.  I'm working on a couple of lengthy posts about the wedding, and I'm waiting for the rest of the photos from our wedding photographer.  Stay tuned!

Although I haven't traveled out of town, I have managed a field trip or two.  Today I'm sharing the Vintage Market Days event here in Birmingham.  It was my first visit, and honestly I was a little underwhelmed overall.  There was one vendor I really loved, and a couple of others I liked.  I could've skipped the rest of it.  Most of the vendors were selling items not to my taste.  But the market did have a wide variety of items, including several booths with vintage clothing.  I left La Countess de Monet in the car because I took in my camera and case.  It was crowded, so I'm happy I left her safely in the car.

Below I'll share with you a few of my favorites.  They include:  spool and button crafts; pretty bottle crafts; quilted runners; pretty shabby chic lampshades; antique bottles; antique milk glass; architectural antiques; prints;  and dough bowls.  I bought a couple of items for Christopher and Shanley Belle's adorable little Tudor cottage (I'll share at a later date).  I regret not buying a quilted runner for myself, and I am absolutely inspired by the botanical/zoological prints.  I want to draw and make a few of my own!

I regret that I didn't purchase one of these pretties.

I will try to make one of my own soon!

  1. I love to see what vintage items are sold in different areas of the country. Milk glass is so inexpensive here and often found in GW stores....but the "country type" items are more expensive here. When i go to Ohio, milk glass is very expensive! It's always fun to search for a treasure at these types of Markets. Your daughter made a lovely bride - many happy wishes to them!!

  2. RJ, I cannot wait to see your posts on Shanley Belle's wedding (and their cottage!). In the meantime, the vintage fair photos are so fun to see. As vintage and antiques dealers, displays are a very important thing to me and my sisters. I love the textiles, and that price for the runners was good! It's one thing to find things like vintage and antique laces and buttons, but to do the crafts like the banners, frames, and art on wood are going the extra step. Kudos to the dealers who inspire with their wares like that! Thanks for sharing!

  3. hi Ricki Jill, I'm sorry I couldn't go with you to Vintage Market Days, my friend Linda {Coastal Charm} had a booth there, did you see her perhaps? It looks like they had a ton of creative stuff! I know these past months you have been consumed by wedding activities, and I look forward to see more photos of the beautiful couple and wedding. Hopefully you and your husband can have a much earned getaway soon!

    1. I did, but I didn't know that she was a blogger. Her booth was very popular, and you would've enjoyed it, I think!

  4. I love this photo of Shanley Belle and Christopher, looking forward to seeing the photo book! The vintage market looks interesting and fun. I know how you feel when you don't find things to suit your taste but a fun field trip. I thought that was a great price on the runners for another trip maybe. I enjoyed all of these photos and see a few things I might have brought home. Look forward to lunch with you in the new year.......Happy March.

  5. I would have bought some of the spools and the quilt pieces. The ironstone pitchers were cute.

We have The Great Junk Hunt coming to town this weekend with loads of vendors. We are looking for a vintage dresser for our bedroom.

    1. The spools were mostly very large. They did have a few small ones, too, and some of the crafts made with them were lots of fun!

  8. Oh my gosh those windows for $20! I want!! Everything old here is so expensive, but you've made me want to go shopping. So many vintage pretties, but I have to say my favorite picture is that stunning first shot...what a gorgeous couple and that bouquet! Stunning. I can't wait to see more photos!

  9. They are such a good looking couple and I love the picture outdoors. I can't wait to see the pictures! Sorry the vintage market days were a little disappointing! Markets like this are so fun! I do love all of the items you posted though. The button frames are adorable! I am also attracted to the Mint Windows! I don't know what you would do with them, but the color is fun!
