Welcome Fall with Neutrals and Yellows

 

Happy Tuesday, My Lovelies!  Did you have a nice Labor Day yesterday?  I hope you had a nice time grilling out with your family.  And if you didn't grill, I hope you had a lovely day and ate something delicious!

I wanted to use these fairly new napkins on my table.  The neutral seersucker ones were purchased from Anthropologie, and the bright yellow check napkins are from Farmhouse Pottery.

When I was looking around for table linens and tableware for this tablescape, I decided to go with mostly neutrals and yellow.  I think these colors are reminiscent of autumn, especially the browns.

The yellow cabbage rose tablecloth is the most summery thing on the table.  But this table is definitely a transition from summer to fall.  The checked table runner with the bright yellow stitching complements it.

The little salt and pepper shaker set is definitely a nod to autumn.  I like how it matches the table runner.

I chose chrysanthemums and sunflowers for the centerpiece.  Sunflowers are so plentiful this time of the year, and I love the colors of the mums.

For the past couple of falls I've taken out this espresso set.  The colors remind me of fall.

I also like how the cups and saucers look with our Longaberber stoneware.

I love the bright sunflower napkin rings.  Yellows and golds are lovely colors for fall!

Thanksgiving Vignette In the Breakfast Room

Happy Tuesday *and* Election Day, My Lovelies!  American Friends, I hope that y'all will exercise your God-given right to vote today in between enjoying all the lovely Thanksgiving Tablescapes.  I'd like to thank my Sweet Friend Rita @ the Panoply blog for hosting these blog hops.  I am very grateful to you, Rita, for all your planning and organizational skills.  These blog hops are so much fun!

I have so much to be thankful for.  This is my last week of radiation!  My last main treatment was yesterday, and I just have four "supplementals" each day from today through Friday, and then I'm DONE!  It has been a long year: I was first diagnosed with breast cancer this time last year, and my first chemotherapy session was on December 27th.  

In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

1 Thessalonians 5:18

I am a little tired from the radiation treatments, and unfortunately my tablescape reflects that.  But you know what?  I love it, and it brings me joy.  You can see in this recent post how I replaced real pumpkins for fake Hot Skwash velvet pumpkins on our breakfast room table.  I was planning on putting them away, but our daughter said that she loves them, and she thought I should put all of our Hot Skwash on the table.  She gathered a few of them that had been scattered around the house and brought them into the kitchen for the vignette.

Let's take a look at our breakfast room table from above:

Initially I was going with something simple on the table because although I am hosting Thanksgiving this year, we are actually eating our main meal at the country club.  I'm being kind to myself!  This table was easy, yet the bright colors are impactful.

I started with this table runner because it has some of the colors as our Hot Skwash.

Then I placed the Hot Skwash in a vintage Annie Glass boat.

I added a few red accessories because red and green are complementary colors and perfect for Christmas.  Because it will take me longer to decorate for Christmas this year (because let's face it: I'm doing everything a bit more slowly these days), we're starting our Christmas decorating next week.  I thought this tablescape would last through Thanksgiving and blend nicely with our Christmas decor.

I like having all the velvet pumpkins together in one place.  They represent some of my favorite colors! 

I wanted to add red flowers, so I added red roses, and

a red cyclamen plant.

I will need to replace the roses closer to Thanksgiving, but the cyclamen will be fine and will bloom for the rest of the season.

Oh, give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good,

I Replaced Our Real Pumpkins With Hotskwash...

 

...because the real ones were rotting...

Happy Tuesday, My Lovelies!  Do you remember this centerpiece (below) I created?

Well...it rotted.  It was ugly.  And it smelled!

Lovelies, I have no idea what went wrong;  this isn't my first time at the rodeo.  I have had real pumpkins and squash in our home during the autumn season for years, for almost all of the thirty-four years we've been married.

WTH?

So I decided to gather all my Hot Skwash together, and I even bought a few little ones to add to the centerpiece.  I also changed the runner to something a bit more fall-ish.  The other one had lots of orange in it, but I was afraid that it stank, too, so I washed it.

I chose pumpkins to match the runner and the MacKenzie-Childs olive server.

I also chose the other Mackenzie-Childs pieces to match the table runner.

I've had this table runner for many years, and I still love it!

I like the crocheted elements and the colors.

Someone keeps rearranging the pumpkins.  I wonder who's doing that?

I love the colors of the carnations.  They match the flowers in the table runner perfectly.

While writing this post I learned that the National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for our area.  This gives me itchy armpits, y'all...

Moving on...

I also bought some croton plants to bring fall color inside our home:

That's about all I have for today.  I'm just waiting around to see if we're having our book club meeting tonight.  It might be postponed due to the expected inclement weather.

Easy Fall Centerpiece Tutorial

Happy Wednesday, My Lovelies!  Since tomorrow is the first day of fall, I thought I'd share an easy fall centerpiece tutorial.  I wanted something pretty and easy for our kitchen table.

I was inspired by a recent visit to my happy place, Leaf 'n Petal, in Cahaba Heights.  

This beautiful centerpiece is between three and four feet long.  Its base is a long bread server.

Here's a close-up.

The sweet lady who always helps me was busy with a customer, so I just took these photos so I could show her when I returned.  Yesterday, when I returned, she helped me get the materials together that I needed for the project.  I didn't want to take the container I was using to the shop because I didn't want to risk breaking it, but I did have the dimensions with me in order to purchase the right amount of pumpkins and gourds.

Here's what you'll need for the centerpiece:

pumpkins and gourds

moss

vine

fake berries

container

Instructions:

First, arrange your pumpkins in the container.

Next, place moss in between the pumpkins.

Note:  Place newspaper or craft paper on table before making your centerpiece.  I didn't do that, and the moss made one hot mess!

Next, arrange vine around pumpkins.

This vine has bright green stuff on it.  I took a close-up so you can see it better.

Finally, insert the berries.  I cut them off the stem and inserted them in the moss.

After I spent fifteen minutes cleaning up the mess I made, I placed a table runner (with blues, grays, reds, and oranges) to match the container and pumpkins on the table and centered the centerpiece.
