Happy New Year, New Decade *plus* Five Things To Do In January

Wednesday, January 8, 2020

Happy New Year 2020, My Lovelies!

Normally I do not look forward to new years...mostly because January is my least favorite month!

This year is different.

This year I could not wait for 2020.  I am hopeful that it will be one of the best years for our family.  I am looking forward, not back.  I will not post a 2019 wrap-up:  The only exception I'll make is posting about my favorite books of 2019.

Maybe a couple of the books above will be included on the list.  Check back in a few days to see!

In years past, I've made all kinds of lofty plans with my blog, things I've wanted to accomplish and share with my readers.  And you know what?  In every instance these topics have fallen flat with my readers.

I'm not doing that this year.  Nope!

This year, my blog will be unplanned, a true journal of my life and what I'm learning.  I might participate in links, especially with my Tales of the Traveling Tote group, and I will review a few books via TLC Book Tours, but that's as planned as this little blog will be.

This year, my inspirational word is FAITH.  I have been terribly upset about the state of the world that is way beyond my control, and I have spent too much time researching a couple of topics, especially child trafficking.  For my own mental health, I'm taking a break from reading about it, and I'm focusing on faith-based books and a few fun fiction selections.  I will be highly selective about what I read in 2020!

And if, on occasion, I want hot chocolate for lunch, so be it!  There's protein in milk, and the Kool-Whip is lite!  ;p

Moving on, I want to share with you

Five Things To Do In January

1.   Grow an indoor garden by forcing bulbs.

Some of you might have read my Advent post about forcing bulbs.  It was my first try at it, and I was skeptical.  But look:

Aren't they lovely!
I'm forcing even more bulbs this month!

After I posted my Advent post, I found an article via Cottages and Bungalows Magazine that has more tips, like adding vodka to the water once the bulbs begin to flower.  This prevents the stems from growing too long and falling over.  Who knew?  You can read the article HERE.

2.   Join the Goodreads 2020 Reading Challenge

I have joined this challenge for several years now, and I think it's a good way to keep-up with what I've read.  This year my goal is to read 36 books.  Three per month will be slightly challenging because this will be a busy year for us.  But if I don't reach my goal, so what?  I am determined to read QUALITY OVER QUANTITY this year!

3.   Join the Thirty Day Yoga Challenge with Adriene

I have participated in Yoga with Adriene's Thirty Day Challenge for three years now, and I love it!  This year's theme is HOME which is perfect for at-home practice.  Here is a LINK to Adriene's site.
I love Adriene.  Her lessons have changed my life!

4.   Read a cozy mystery

Here are two I can recommend.  I haven't chosen the one I'll be reading yet.

5.   Make plans to have coffee with a friend you haven't seen in a long time.

I get it.  We are all busy.  But social media is a very poor substitution for seeing a friend in the flesh, for realsies.  And if coffee isn't your thing, what about hot tea?  Anything hot, because it's January!

That's it for now!  I am choosing to be optimistic about 2020.  What about you?

Please make sure to visit me on January 15th for a very special post!  You won't want to miss it!

Until next time...

Blessings!
Ricki Jill

  6. Love this post RJ. I would rather look forward and plan ahead than looking back. I think you have a great attitude and plan for looking ahead. You are wise to take a break from topics that are real life horror. You'll be stronger to do more positive work after you return. Oh I love forcing bulbs, they are so beautiful. I hope I can find some already started tomorrow when I'm out. Beautiful photos.

  10. Thank You for sharing your goals. I want to learn to sew. MY sister bought me a child's sewing machine. It has instructions on how to make doll clothes. This will be a baby step for me to learn. I am teaching myself Latin and sign language. I also intend to get back to my dance videos. I want to do some exercises, too. Wishing you and yours a blessed, happy and healthy 2020.
