Tales of the Traveling Totes: St. Kitts and Nevis

Thursday, March 1, 2018

Welcome to my very first Tales of the Traveling Totes post!  La Countess de Monet and I couldn't be happier joining the eleven other pairs of traveling ladies!  Today we want to share our Christmas vacation because we're cold, and we miss St. Kitts!

We spent our Christmas vacation in St. Kitts-Nevis on the island of St. Kitts at the Park Hyatt resort.
The Countess de Monet is lounging at the family zero entry pool on the beach.

Saint Kitts, also known more formally as Saint Christopher Island, is an island in the West Indies. The west side of the island borders the Caribbean Sea, and the eastern coast faces the Atlantic Ocean. Saint Kitts and the neighboring island of Nevis constitute one country: the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis.  Located in the Leeward Islands chain of the Lesser Antilles, it is the smallest sovereign state in the Western Hemisphere, in both area and population. The country is a Commonwealth realm, with Queen Elizabeth II as head of state.  It's a common phrase in the Caribbean that people go to St. Barths to be seen, and St. Kitts to hide!

The Park Hyatt is located on the southeast tip of St. Kitts on The Narrows.  Our view was of Nevis.

The three photos above are of the vanishing edge pool for adults.  You can see Nevis in the background, with the family pool on the beach in the foreground.

the beautiful spa
Shanley Belle and I received treatments there, and we loved the staff!

I love frangipani!  The grounds are so pretty, and I would love to see them when the plants mature.

We loved afternoon tea.  It was one of our favorite activities, and the pastry chef baked the best scones I've ever had.

Of all the resorts I've visited in the Caribbean, The Park Hyatt St. Kitts ranks in my top three along with Sandy Lane in Barbados and Le Guanahani in St. Barths.

We took a couple of excursions while we were there: Christophe Harbour and Caribelle Batik.

The Harbour House and shops/galleries at Christophe Harbour
This marina is so pretty, and it's new.  The construction on the Harbour House above isn't quite finished.

These shops and galleries had beautiful things!

The property was stunning

The girls enjoyed shopping here for themselves and their friends.  We watched a batik demonstration which was very interesting.

We had the best Christmas on St. Kitts, and it was a blessing to Mr. Sketchy Reader and me spending time with the girls in the warm sun!  Shanley Belle and I each read four books on the beach.  It was so nice!

Until next time...

Blessings!

  1. Oh, how exciting it was to see your photos of sun and warmth on this cold dreary day! Looks like a wonderful place to stay - we have been to many Caribbean islands, but not here, so I have added it to my list of places to visit! I am anxious for the sun and warmth to arrive in our neck of the woods - expecting more snow tomorrow !

  2. Wow RJ, that place is GORGEOUS! What a dreamy and stress free way to have Christmas! The batiks are incredible! The pools are simply beautiful, and if you read 4 books, you really relaxed! There is nothing better than island life!

  3. What a wonderful way to spend time with the girls and the mister. These pics leave me wanting to find a tropical paradise to visit. We've been to the islands a few times but not here. The bright sunshine and blue skies is something I am looking forward to! Great post and welcome!

  4. As we await our Nor'easter's arrival I am drooling over these gorgeous sites! What a great way to spend holiday time with family. My favorite Caribbean resort so far has been Glitter Bay in Barbados but I prefer the island of Bermuda, BUT now I'm putting this gorgeous hotel and island on my list! The batik demonstration must have been interesting and those fabrics are so tempting. Instant tropical mood! Welcome to the group! Linda

  5. Ricki Jill, welcome to the tribe, and what a way to usher in Countess de Monet! I have not been to St. Kitts and the Nevis, but it looks fabulous. Who would care about missing Christmas at home with views like those? Not this girl, and I am a self-professed Christmas lover. I have been to Sint Maarten (Dutch side) and Anguilla, and while Hurricane Irma pretty much destroyed the SM landscape, it appears she didn't hurt the islands you visited at all. Wondering if you guys scuba? We like exploring the possibilities in the gorgeous Caribbean waters.
That batiking experience and photos looked so inviting. Thanks for sharing all of these places. I love seeing recommendations from tried and true travelers.

  9. So fun to have you in the TT group! The Countess de Monet and Miss Madi K would be friends - loving warm and beachy - especially during any of the winter months! She certainly has good taste in places to go and accommodations! We are off to the Bahamas soon - nothing like this part of the world, is there?

  14. WOW! I am starting to feel more and more like a getaway during the holidays is the thing to do. Your photos are lovely.

  15. I love frangipani! When my niece got married in Marco Island, her Inlaws gave her some to bring back to New York and plant. Even with our brutal winters, it blooms every year here! So fun to have you in the TT group! The Countess de Monet and Miss Aurora would be friends especially during any of the winter months! Although we would never go away for Christmas, there is always January through March. LOL
