Feeling Blue

Saturday, April 20, 2013

Dear Bloggy Friends:

Today I'm feeling blue.  My heart feels worn out.  It has been one awful week.

The terrorist attack on Boston has affected us all.

I want to comfort the people of Boston:

I want to give them a hug,

make them tea,

give them a treat,

give them flowers,

and say encouraging words, like our President did.  He quoted from one of my favorite passages from the Book of Hebrews:

The Race of Faith

Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

~Hebrews 12:1-2

{You may read a transcript of President Obama's remarks from the Memorial Service here.}

I have faith that God will help the City of Boston heal.  I also have faith in the fine people of Boston.  Boston is one of our greatest cities!

Just look at what law enforcement and Bostonians have accomplished in less than a week!  You've apprehended one of the perpetrators, and killed the other.

You have been strong, Boston.

Plus, you're already helping the victims of the bombings through several organizations, including The One Fund.

You deserve recognition for your efforts...what a wonderful community!

However much I wish I could comfort you, Boston, I want you to know that you have comforted and encouraged me this week.  I've been watching the coverage on TV and listening to it on the radio, and I've been awed and humbled by your bravery, determination, and resolve.

While I've been trying to nurse Mr. Art @ Home back to health, you have strengthened us.

Thank-you, Boston.

Mr. Art @ Home has been terribly ill since Tuesday with a high fever, headaches, and GI issues. We've had several sleepless nights.  I finally persuaded him to go to the doctor yesterday and his doctor has no idea what's wrong.  However, it must have been bacterial as the shots yesterday and the Bactrim seem to be working.  He tested negative for the flu.  I won't be posting again until next Tuesday, but I hope that our entire household can rest the next few days. Hopefully I can visit a few of your lovely blogs!

Until next time...

Blessings!
Ricki Jill

  8. That is a lovely tribute! It seems I have run out of words and just wanted to be somewhere silent and still after yet another senseless act of violence. I'm glad you could speak for those of us who can't seem to. Let's hope for happier times and your husband to be well on the mend!

  13. Good morning Ricki Jill!

I too hurt very much for my fellow Bostonians; my husband and I grew up there as a couple while going to school there. We frequented the marathon for many years, walked up and down Newbury and Boylston and for this to happen is unimaginable. I am also an elementary French teacher and the loss of the young boy just crushed me.

My previous post was a bit maudlin, but I felt it was time to move on to lighter issues, but I believe that those who go on before us are indeed alive, just in another place, with our savior.

Thank you for your kind comment, wishes for a great birthday and for visiting. I see you have a fuzzy white terrier of some sort in your photo!!!!!!!

  14. Wonderful tribute RJ. It has been a hard week to post. I posted something that I had already written but I have very little motivation myself to even consider "decorating" and the like. It seems all rather pointless. I know that it really isn't and that we need to carry forward but there is a certain sense of emptiness when you consider what the injured and those that lost loved ones now face in the days, months and years ahead.

  15. This is such a wonderful post, Ricki Jill. I haven't posted much this week. I think with all that has happened between Boston & Texas, I just didn't feel up to it.

Sending good wishes to Mr. Art. I hope he's feeling better soon! Take good care of him!

  19. What a horrible senseless tragedy, such a waste of lives, it breaks my heart. There is not a lot of comfort in any resolution. I love the scripture President Obama read and it seems like a month since this happened instead of a week. I just pray for our country.
I sure hope Mr. Art gets well soon. Hugs and love all round!!I think we all need it! :D

  20. I think Stephen Colbert summed it up perfectly, here: http://youtu.be/Fzu76u34LQo
    (warning: little bit of cussing)

I hope this raging bacterial infection of doom clears his system soon! Those things tend to become a bad cycle of GI problems. And his tummy flora probably needs replenishing now as well. Hugs to your whole family!

  25. Ricki Jill, I hope your hubby is much better now. Sounds like he had a rough time.
It is impossible to understand why such awful things happen but I know we have a loving God who understands our grief.
