Early Fall Decor: All About Mauve

 

Happy Monday, My Lovelies!  This weekend I began putting away summer decor and slowly decorating for early autumn.  I like reusing old favorites each year, but last week I went out shopping for a little inspiration... and I found it.  The inspiration for our breakfast room table stems from a pretty apron and napkin set from World Market in a pattern called "Green and Pink Fern."  I love the watercolor print with autumn flowers and ferns in various shades of pinks and greens.  The predominate color is actually mauve:  It reminds me of the 80s, y'all!  I am seeing this color everywhere these days, too.  This is a quick, fun little tablescape I put together, and I thought it might be worth sharing mainly because of the colors.

Before y'all send me any nasty grams, I realize that there is no silverware on the table because we've been eating virtually every meal and snack at home, and I didn't have enough clean silverware in the kitchen to set my table.  The dishwasher was running as I was taking photos.

Not only did I purchase the napkins and apron, but I also purchased the solid matching placemats.  I paired them with my Nathalie Lété plates from Anthropologie.  The napkin rings also have ferns on them to match the napkins and apron.

Here are a few details:

(left) I purchased the checked loving cup vase from Anthropologie.  Here, I'm using it as a planter for a fern in keeping with the theme.  The mauve wire coasters are new from earlier in the summer, as is the hydrangea hurricane.  Both are from Terrain, and I had no idea that all three would look so nice with the napkins and placemats.

(center) I love how the MacKenzie-Childs cheese server blends nicely with the Green and Pink Fern pattern.

(right) I was lucky finding the bouquet at The Fresh Market with its burgundy, pink, and mauve flowers.  The vase even has a mauve stripe on it.

Tablescape Blog Hop: Wildflowers for Spring

 

Happy First Full Day of Spring, My Lovelies!  Today is the perfect day to celebrate spring's renewal with a Spring Tablescape Blog Hop.

It took me several days to decide upon a theme for the spring blog hop because I love spring:  It's my favorite season!  I love Easter and Mother's Day, plus my birthday is in May usually during blackberry winter.  It's also time to pull up the pansies and plant spring container gardens.  So many choices!  But I decided on a wildflower theme when I saw the following from Terrain:

Terrain has so many beautiful things for the table.

Recently, Mr. Bookish wanted to go to an estate sale for the art on offer.  Once we got there, we were informed that certain pieces would be sold online at auction, so it was pretty much a burnt run for us until I saw a 12 piece set of 1970s Japanese speckleware.  I loved it so much because I grew up in the seventies, and I knew someone who had this exact set.  It features wildflowers, and they bloom during spring.  The patterns are:  Sweet Clover, Wild Pink, Buttercup, Field Daisy, Dandelion, and Violet.  We purchased the set for $9, and all the pieces are in excellent condition, some of them mint condition.

This is the Dandelion pattern, and it might be my favorite pattern.

This wildflower is called a Wild Pink.  

I believe this is a breakfast set because there are twelve small coffee mugs and twelve small plates.  I set our breakfast room table for breakfast.

I started with a Simply Shabby Chic tablecloth and matching napkins.

I added Pier1 plates as chargers and the vintage speckleware plates.  They match the roses on the table linens.  The speckleware is in the Sweet Clover pattern.

I added the napkins with vintage duck napkin rings.

This plate is the Field Daisy pattern.

I needed breakfast serving pieces: I added a jam pot, honeypot, berry basket, marmalade pot, and butter bell.

With all the wildflowers, I needed a bee on the table.

I have a tray with the rest of the plates and mugs.  They're ready to take outside as soon as it's warmer.  I had planned to set our table on our deck, but it's been too cold and windy (unseasonably cold and windy) here in Central Alabama.  Yesterday morning (March 20th) it was colder here than in New York City by a couple of degrees!

My Happy List: Valentines' Day and Mardi Gras Decor

Happy Tuesday, My Lovelies!  There's only one thing on My Happy List today.  After a wet and rainy Saturday afternoon and Sunday, today I'm happy because:

...there's sunshine in my home AND I'm decorating for Valentine's Day and Mardi Gras, which are only one day apart this year.  Sunny days at home make me happy!

Because I took so many photos, I'll only share the dining room and breakfast room tables with you today.  Later in the week I'll share other little Valentine's Day touches around Chez Treleaven.

I'll start with the dining room....

The table is set for Valentine's Day breakfast.  I have three events on Valentine's Day, plus it's Ash Wednesday.  

LOL Do you see the brass under glass?  Yes, this is a circa 1984 dining room table, but I love it because sometimes I need the space for projects and I haven't destroyed it yet!  

We're having Mr. Sketchy Reader's favorite vanilla bean scones, along with...

scrambled eggs served in the large heart, jam, and Devon cream in the small heart....

...and black English Breakfast Tea.

The beautiful flowers are from Bloom and Petal.

If you live in the Birmingham area, I highly recommend them!

It's hard to decorate for Mardi Gras.  The colors are garish together, and it's tacky.

So I went with the tacky.  Please don't unfollow me!

Our daughter has a lot of the purple and gold stuff since she's in Baton Rouge at LSU.  So I just went with the lemons since they're bright yellow, gold, and green.

The gold, green, and purple tea light holders are actually Moroccan tea glasses.

Brighten-up Your Kitchen for Autumn

Before all the autumn baking and preparations begin, why not add some color to your kitchen?  I love white kitchens, but I also like bright accessories that pop.  These are definitely on my Brighten-up My Kitchen Wish List:

I love the Susan G. Komen KitchenAid mixer from Williams-Sonoma.

The After My Own Heart spice rack from Mod Cloth is so cheerful it would make any baking chore fun.

I have always wanted a Dualit toaster, and this color is so pretty.

Of course I had to visit my mother ship for inspiration!  These pie bird salt and pepper shakers from MacKenzie-Childs are so cute with their bright yellow bills.

Don't you know I love this artist's palette egg tray from Anthropologie.

This apron from Pier 1 is too, too cute!

Ummmmmm......NO.  Not even for a Nespresso.....

.....but I do like the Nespresso Pixie in lime green.

Would you like any of these bright kitchen accessories in your kitchen? I might need the egg tray.  It would be great for serving deviled eggs, don't you think?
