Advent Day One 2016

Thursday, December 1, 2016

Happy First Day of December, My Lovelies!  How are your Christmas preparations coming along? We're in pretty good shape over here....most holiday shopping is done, most presents are wrapped, and the tree is going up tonight!

I've been crushing on tiny little bottle brush trees lately!

You might remember from yesterday's post that I'm trying something a little different with my Advent calendar this year:

I lifted the flap above the number one, and this is the cookie I baked this morning:

That's right!  Chocolate-dipped Chocolate Chip Cookies.  I bet you didn't think the chocolate chip cookie could be improved.  Nay, nay, Little Bunny!  It can!  After all, this is the season for miracles!

All you need to do to make this wonderful recipe is follow the traditional NestlĂ© Tollhouse recipe printed on the semisweet chocolate chip bag BUT you reduce it in half.  This leaves half of the chocolate chips unused (we'll get back to this fact in a bit).  After baking the cookies, let them cool completely.  After cookies have cooled, melt the chocolate chips in the microwave on 80% power. Then dip the cookies only around the edges and place on waxed paper to set.  If it's warm in your kitchen you might want to refrigerate them for a few minutes.  That's it!

Isaiah 4:2-6

The Branch of the Lord

2 In that day the Branch of the Lord will be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the land will be the pride and glory of the survivors in Israel. 3 Those who are left in Zion, who remain in Jerusalem, will be called holy, all who are recorded among the living in Jerusalem. 4 The Lord will wash away the filth of the women of Zion; he will cleanse the bloodstains from Jerusalem by a spirit of judgment and a spirit of fire. 5 Then the Lord will create over all of Mount Zion and over those who assemble there a cloud of smoke by day and a glow of flaming fire by night; over everything the glory will be a canopy. 6 It will be a shelter and shade from the heat of the day, and a refuge and hiding place from the storm and rain.

Until next time...

Blessings!
Ricki Jill

  1. What a great idea -- I showed this to Ray as we are waiting for our Deep Dish Pizza to reheat (you must try this place!), and he thinks it is a winner. I haven't gotten to cookie baking yet, because I am attempting to decorate for Christmas, finally.

I found that bible verse interesting. I wonder what the context was for the part about "cleansing the filth of the women of Zion" -- do you know?

    1. I get my daily readings from selections on Episcopal websites (we're Episcopal) and I chose this one because although the book of Isaiah's main theme is the judgment on the Lord's people, Isaiah paints a picture of hope in this passage using a backdrop of gloom and despair. "Cleansing of the fifth of the women of Zion" is an allusion to a chemist purifying metals. This is symbolic of the Lord purifying sin from Israel. This "refining process" of the nation of Israel will leave a holy remnant that would be cared for and protected by God. The events in verse four come chronologically before verse 3 (and then 5 and 6). It is appropriate for Advent because it promises of a day when the "Branch of the Lord will be beautiful and glorious..." as the branch refers to the coming Messiah.
