Succulent Wreath/ Birthday Update

Thursday, May 3, 2012

I had the very best birthday yesterday!  I went to Tuscaloosa and had lunch with Shanley, then we had dinner at my friend Susan's house.  Susan is my best friend in the world...we grew-up together and share the same birthday.  She is one year older than I am, and I always wanted to follow in her footsteps growing up.  Susan and her family moved away about ten years ago, but now they are back.  I am so thankful that they are home to stay.  She hosted the best dinner party, and we had a blast!

Today I am going to the art studio and clean it up.  I cannot take the filth anymore!!!  ;P   I will paint a little, too, and do some shopping.  I have been neglecting my errands lately, and I need to finish running them.  I have a couple of blog party folks to visit, and then I will visit the rest of y'all between tonight and tomorrow.

We purchased the wreath hanger at Smith & Hawken.  I miss that store!  I hope it is strong enough to hold the wreath's weight.

Some of you have asked about my succulent wreath, and I finally got around to making it.  The Johnny Jump Ups were finally wilting in the heat.  The wreath is so heavy, and I hope that the short roots take hold soon because it was so hard getting the plants to stay put!

Until next time...

Blessings!
Ricki Jill

  2. Yeah!!! Happy Belated Birthday! I'm glad you had a fun day. I'm from Alabama (the state) too. Have you seen the commercial for a yard product that has the man taking calls from work for all the cities he has to travel to? One that he says is "Tuscaloosa".

  7. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! (belated)
I'm so glad it was a good one, that Shanley is feeling better, and that you get to have an old friend back in your life. :D

Also, that succulent wreath is amazing, but yes, I bet it would be hefty. My mom would love something like that....did you make it yourself?

  10. Your birthday sounds like it was fun. The wreath is very pretty. Those plants should do well in it, right?

The "in" thing of all the vertical plants and flowers is very interesting. I wonder how many of them (especially the vertical planters advertised on TV right now) will look by the end of the summer.

    All the best,
    Lois

I have to say, I have never seen a wreath holder like that and the wreath is stunning. I wonder if I can find that up here somewhere.

  19. So glad you stopped by - so I could find you!! I adore succulents! I've had a bucket full for years - leave it outdoors year round, never water it , and it thrives! Can't ask for much more.

    Your wreath is divine!

Hope you had a fabulous birthday!

  20. Love the idea of a succulent wreath. I've thought of one for our front porch, but probably not sunny enough. Love yours!

  21. Glad to hear that you had a great birthday Ricki! I can't wait to see pictures and hear more stories from you. And what a great coincidence, you shared the same birthday with your bestfriend. And while you said that you wanted to be like Susan, I also consider you as one of my inspirations. If I will become a mom, I want to be like you, happy, energetic, creative and as often mention, "someone who really rock!"

  23. Happy Belated Birthday! Glad you had such a nice day.

I gave my mom a similar wreath maker years ago. A succulent wreath like yours would be a fun project. I think she used to use it for impatiens.
