Today I am combining My Happy List with Favorites on the First. My Happy List is simple this week: I am happy because it is May, my favorite month! Plus, tomorrow is my birthday. *squee*
I like to hang a May Day basket on our door each year. May Day traditions harken back to the ancient druids who celebrated Beltane on May 1st. It was one of the most important dates of their calendar, and Beltane divided the year in half with Samhain on November 1st marking the other half of the year.
People give baskets full of flowers on May Day where they are traditionally placed on the front door.

I like placing ribbons on my May Day basket. They remind me of May poles!

I remember making May baskets and hanging them on the doors of my neighborhood friends. We'd ring the bell and shout "May basket for ___", then run hide. The baskets were filled with sticks of gum, candies, and flowers. What sweet innocent fun.

Those flowers on your door are beautiful. I've always wondered how to hand something over the glass on mine and still have it look good. I'll have to give a basket a try.
