Valentine's Day Tablescape Blog Hop: Paris Is Always a Good Idea

Tuesday, January 24, 2023

Je t'ador!

Je vous adore, mes amours!  Welcome to the 2023 Valentine's Day Edition of our Tablescape Blog Hop Series!  I want to thank sweet Rita from the Panoply Blog for organizing and hosting these hops.  Rita, you are the best!

My Valentine's Day tablescape is in our dining room.  I chose a French theme because I'm in the mood to travel, but for now, I can pretend.  Paris is considered one of the most romantic cities in the world, and I agree.  Not only did I decorate the table, I also decorated our Welsh Cupboard, too.  Yes, the flowers on the lefthand side of the cupboard are poinsettias.  I still have them all over the house because they still look so pretty.  I've never had them last so long.  I've had them in the house since before Thanksgiving.

Before we look more closely at the table, let's look at the Welsh cupboard:

I made a banner using vintage-style Valentine's Day cards and grosgrain ribbon.

I also added a few French and Valentine's Day accessories.

A cake stand and server for Valentine's Day treats

Below is a closer look at the table:

The first thing I chose for the table is the linen tablecloth.  I like using it for football season because it's crimson and white (University of Alabama school colors), but this past football season I didn't use it.  It's one of my favorites in my collection.

I chose the Paris theme due to my Nathalie Lété La Tour Eiffel plates:

I love the hearts on the plates as well as the fun colors.

Next, I added café au lait bowls in different colors; each bowl matches a color on the plates.  We've been eating lots of soups, stews, and gumbo since Christmas.

The crimson bowl matches the heart.

Continuing the Parisian theme, I chose crimson and white toile de jouy napkins.  They even have a dancing couple on them!

The MacKenzie-Childs Piccadilly heart-shaped bowls match the plates and bowls.

Pink mercury glass tea light votives add sparkle.

The glasses are etched with the letter T as are the coasters.

I wanted the centerpiece to be French-inspired.  French flower arrangements tend to be very dense, unlike English designs.  I went out and found the most ruffled roses I could find.

I decoupaged the vase myself.  I used images from old Romantic Homes magazines.  Do you remember that magazine?  It was one of my favorites, and I miss it!

  1. Color me romanced, Ricki Jill! Oh, how I love the cheerful color throughout here, both on the Welsh cabinet and on the table. The Valentine banner is simply adorable, and the Anthro salad plates are just perfect here. Topping them with your colorful cafe au lait bowls, and adding the M-C heart bowls makes me smile when seeing the framed up view of it all. You really know how to brighten a winter's day! Your poinsettia still looks amazingly full, and that bouquet is literally bursting with color in your cute decoupaged vase (yes, I remember RH and miss it too). Even the napkins carry out the theme of Paris, so chic. Thank you for bringing this light-hearted, colorful table to life for us, Ricki Jill, and for being part of this group of enthused table stylists.❣️

  6. Ricki Jill, no secret that a French Parisian theme would grab my attention and thrill my heart. Like you, travel to Paris fills my imagination for now. I adore that city! Love the Nathalie plates! Her designs have long captured my heart, though my niece took most of mine. She likes to hang them in groups on her powder room wall. It's fun for me to see her enjoy these little works of art. I can see why the linen cloth is a favorite. The MC dishes are a perfect accessory for this table, and to fill your Welsh dresser. Thinking I need to display mine more rather than keep them hidden in a cupboard. I have some plans buzzing in my head. Perhaps spring will bring a refresh here.
I love the shard cake stand. Did you make it? I'm thinking that would be a fun project. I have a box of shards. Juse need to figure out how to construct it so the top is flat. The decoupaged vase is lovely too. I do remember RH magazine. I miss it! The days of the original Victoria magazine too. I subscribe to the new one, but the original had more unique content. It's fun to see you dining room and table dress for Valentine's and always fun to be on a tablescape hop with you. I agree. Rita is the best!

  17. RJ, you have so many lovely things for your "Paris is always a good idea" post theme. First of all you know I love your amazing collection of MacKenzie-Childs (especially since I know the story of how it began) and the Anthro pieces. I've wanted to start a collection of those too but questioned adding another. I'm amazed you still have poinsettias since Thanksgiving. I thought I kept them a long time! I think they add another beautiful layer to your theme. Pretty hutch and tablecloth. Enjoy your lovely home all dressed up for Valentine's Day.........

  19. Paris brings thoughts of love, long walks along the river and hours writing in a journal. So nice to combine all of that with Valentine's Day. Loved your table linen choices and the very cute banner you made. The gorgeous flowers make such a statement on the table and really set the scene for romance. The whole room comes together in a lovely way to express your theme. Happy Valentine's Day!'
