Halloween Tablescape: Midnight At the Ball

Tuesday, October 11, 2022

Happy Tuesday, My Lovelies!  Welcome to the Halloween Tablescape Blog Hop hosted by Sweet Rita @ the Panoply Blog.  Thanks so much for hosting, Rita!

Full Disclosure:  Halloween is not my favorite.  As much as I love fall (all things pumpkin spice; apple cider donuts; football games; outdoor fires in our fireplace; fall festivals; and sweater weather), I do not like Halloween.  The only thing I like about it is seeing the neighborhood children in their adorable Halloween costumes.  That's about it.

I don't like Halloween because I don't like horror (I rarely read it), and I don't like the whole mindset of being scared.

I also don't like orange as a general rule.  In our culture of Alabama football, the Third Saturday in October is the traditional date for the Alabama v. Tennessee game (which will be played in Knoxville this Saturday).  Tennessee orange during the month of October in a Bama fan's home borders on sacrilege.

So what's a girl like me to do for a Halloween Tablescape Blog Hop?  A theme that is loosely based on pumpkins: That will work!  My theme is Midnight at the Ball, when Cinderella's coach turns back into a pumpkin.  Obviously the Prince's ball occurred during fall, and pumpkins come in colors other than orange.  ;P

Let's see how I put together this table's theme:

Mr. Bookish and I don't like tall centerpieces in the middle of our table because it's difficult to see over them, so whenever I arrange a tall floral arrangement, I place it at the end of the table.  Sometimes I place them on the Welsh dresser.

I chose a white pumpkin for Cinderella's coach.  Then I chose a pale, neutral tablecloth with white flowers on it.

There are a few other pumpkins in the pumpkin patch, above.

I chose white roses for the flowers, and eucalyptus for its blue tint, a compliment to Cinderella's dress.

The crystal on the table represents Cinderella's glass slippers.

My best friend gave us this crystal vase for a wedding gift.  It is still a favorite, and it is super heavy.

The plate stacks include a charger, "midnight lace" dinner plates, and crown dessert plates fit for a prince.  The gold napkins are a favorite fall color.

Each dessert plate features a different crown.

  1. Cinderella’s pumpkin coach makes the perfect centerpiece for your table Ricki Jill! I’ve always loved the softer side of fall with pastels and white pumpkins. Love your choice of a tablecloth to represent a blue dress and crystal for the glass slippers. As always, it’s a treat to join you at the table and hop with you. Happy October ♥

  2. For ones who do not relish in Halloween (I've apparently fallen off the wagon, lol), I so enjoy seeing how creativity flourishes in making a Halloween tablescape! You are not alone, yet your style is unique from the others! This was a perfect theme, well played, starting with the centerpiece pumpkin carriage and working out from there. The floral arrangements and crystal are beautiful, and the crown plates are wonderful! {I miss P1's store so much}. The Venetian lace plates are really special. I love the overall look of calm colors with just a hint of the black as veiled. Thank you for creating the ball as part of our hop!

  4. Ricki, I have to agree with you about the truly scary bits of Halloween. It's just not for me anymore. But I need to admit to loving the color orange!

Your use of white pumpkins and roses is very soothing, and still in keeping with October. And I love the crown plates! Everything works so well together :)

    Happy October

  5. This is so sweet and pretty. Such a fun way to highlight the Cinderalla pumpkin! I too do not like the gore of Halloween but I love everything else about Halloween. I just have the best memories of trick or treating as a kid. Thank you for sharing your idea on this blog hop.

  6. Your table scape is very lovely. I tend to switch my choices of color each Fall (sometimes it's non-traditional, other times it's all about the oranges), but this year is all about the deep, rich colors of Fall leaves.

  7. What an elegant table! Your crystal is so pretty and I love the light pumpkins. The crown plates are sweet. Hope you get lots of 'cinderellas' trick or treating at your house!

  8. Very pretty! I laughed because my Mom went to TN and Dad was an LSU fan so I can appreciate the reason you don't love orange - i like the neutral palette! I don't like scary stuff either so I try to do the fun side of Halloween and stay away from the creepy!

  10. An interesting take on A Halloween table, very pretty. I grew up in a neighborhood were everyone went all out for Halloween and it was more of a community coming together - so I have very fond memories of getting scared by my neighbors when their scarecrow came alive!! I think your reason for not liking orange is too funny!! I almost hate to mention that I am a huge Ohio State fan!! Enjoy your football season!!๐Ÿงก๐Ÿˆ

  11. Ricki Jill, I absolutely love this table and the theme that you chose. Your table is so pretty and elegant. When my daughter was little, she loved everything princess. In fact, she was Cinderella one Halloween. It is always such a joy joining you on these hops. Happy fall!

  12. When my children were little I made them a Prince and Princess costume and they looked adorable. My daughter even one a contest so this brings back many happy memories for me. Love the softness of the table setting and your coach is super. Happy Halloween! Lynne

  13. Ricki Jill, I am not a fan of spooky Halloween, but I do love the softer colors that you have used. Your table is beautiful and the crown plates are so perfect for your theme. The white roses are lovely! I have been an Alabama fan since childhood. Last Saturday night, I was so anxious watching the game. With all that said, I guess I never thought about the Tennessee orange and the third Saturday in October. My table was full of orange!! LOL ๐Ÿคฃ

  14. This is very pretty, Ricki Jill. I like vintage Halloween, not too-scary Halloween! I don't mind orange (I rather like it) but I love the white look -- very magical, very Cinderella! So pretty. I'm with you on short centerpieces and nice arrangements at the end of the table. I want to see who I'm eating with!

White roses look beautiful displayed in your gorgeous gifted vase. The gold napkin is a lovely touch. Any princess would love this table. Always a pleasure hopping with you.

  16. Ricki Jill...I am with you on scary...I do not like to be scared and will not read or watch horror anything.
Your table is lovely and I love your pumpkin carriage. We all have a little bit of that Cinderella princess in us and your table reflects all those nuances. White roses...whats not. to love about them? And the crown plates are swoon worthy.
It is always fun to blog hop with you and the others. Such inspiration and uniqueness for sure.

  17. Ricki Jill, such a beautiful table and color palette. It looks very rich and elegant. Especially like those crown plates --- as the self proclaimed Queen of Theme, they call to me lol!

  18. What an exquisite table. I love the use of the carriage to hold the pumpkin with a crown. The crown on the plates makes it a perfect match. The white roses really reflects royalty. Crystal and lace and velvet pumpkins make it so elegant. Beautiful at any time of the year.

  19. There is certainly nothing wrong with not liking Halloween. As much as I am not a fan of horror movies or books, I do like Halloween! Your theme is just perfect for a Halloween celebration and the crown embellished plates are just right for the theme you decided upon. Have a very Happy Halloween doing something other than celebrating Halloween!

  22. Rikki Jill the table setting is breath taking. When I saw the coach I said Cinderellas coach with the pumpkin and all. Cinderella my favorite princess and fairy tale. When my twin Marilyn and I were small we received Cinderella watches after seeing the movie. The watches are still in our jewelry collection despite not working any more. Throw them out NEVER!.

  26. I'm with you, Halloween is not my favorite for all the reasons you listed, but your table is just divine!! So elegant and warm...and Cinderella? Perfect. That's one Halloween theme that sounds perfect to me!!

  27. Yea, Ricki Jill, I understand the Alabama and Tennessee orange thing. My son-in-law went to Alabama and bleeds Crimson Red. Coming up with a Masquerade Ball theme was brilliant. It’s still fantasy and pretend. Isn’t that what Halloween is about. The plates are perfect with your color scheme.

  28. Oh Ricki Jill! I think you and I are kindred spirits! I too drink hot chocolate all year long, and Halloween by far is my least favourite, but love the wee kids all dressed up. I adore you table, and that pumpkin carriage is perfection! I wish Pier 1 was still available here in Canada, but I will be on the hunt for those crown plates elsewhere, so adorable and I already have plans to host a coronation party next May when King Charles is crowned! Such a great way to symbolize glass slippers using the cut crystal glasses. White roses are one of my favourite flowers, and paired with the eucalyptus they make a very regal arrangement! Such a pretty Halloween table!

  30. Ricki Jill, I love how you and Maureen both chose a Cinderella type theme with two very different yet very beautiful interpretations! The crown plates are so fun and I love how each one is different. I was instantly drawn to your feminine color pallete with the soft textures and pretty floral accents. Just lovely! It was fun to hop with you. Happy Halloween!
