Beach Reading Tablescape

Tuesday, June 7, 2022

Happy Tuesday, My Lovelies!  Welcome to the summer edition of the Tablescape Blog Hop hosted by Rita @ Panoply.  Thank-you so much for hosting, Rita!

Isn't this a stunning setting!

But before I share my tablescape, I want to share a happy milestone with you:  Yesterday was my last chemo treatment, and I rang the bell!  So happy to have chemo in the rearview mirror!

Now on to my tablescape.  It has a theme, and it's summer reading for a summer book club meeting.  I decided to use the colors of the ocean, sea glass, sand, driftwood, and sunshine.  I miss the beach.  I haven't been to the beach since 2019!  We're planning a beach trip for late summer or early fall.

The table runner reminds me of the beach because of the colors, and its texture reminds me of beach mats.
The placemats have beach umbrellas printed on them.

I enjoy the vase bookends, and I thought they would be fun to use for the centerpiece.

I ordered these wine cups from England a few years ago.

Sea glass and turquoise votives

Pitcher for strawberry iced tea

Because finger foods are on the menu, there's no need for lots of silverware, although I have placed forks at each setting for the lemon bars.

I also tried to match the fluted MacKenzie-Childs luncheon plates with the placemats.

Book club meetings need to be simple, yet I wanted to offer something delicious for the members.  Here is the menu for our summer book club meeting:

Here are a few suggestions for your summer reading.  I have not read all of these books, however, my daughter has read a few of them, and my bookseller has recommended the rest.

They say you can't judge a book by its cover.
But let's do it anyway!
Which one looks good to you?
I ordered Adult Assembly Required, and it's waiting for me at my local indie bookshop.

Until next time...

Blessings!

  5. Ricki Jill, I love your tablescape theme…so “you”! I love how you paired the colors and patterns of your MKC plates with your abstract beach umbrella placemats. Everyone needs a good juicy beach read so I’d probably choose Mary Kay Andrews. We haven’t been to the beach in years as our lake fills in with waterviews, but there’s nothing like the ocean breeze and sound of the surf. Congrats on your milestone and completion of chemo! So happy to hop with you again. Happy Summer ♥

  6. 🎉🎉🎉🙌🙌🙌Cheers to ringing that bell! You are officially a super woman! A beach reading book club meeting sounds like the next best thing to actually being there, and I choose either Vacationland or Hello, Summer, simply for the covers. Love those placemats and runner, and I can totally see your reasoning for choosing those. And the plates too. That one pattern in the swirl (don't know its name) reminds me of a beach umbrella. Love your theme, menu, and execution at the tabletop. I'm so glad you participated in this and all the hops so far. Happy summer!!🎉🎉

  23. So happy to hear that you finished your chemo and you are moving on to feeling and doing all the fun things you have on a list. The beach would definitely be on the top of my list too. However, I felt like I was at the beach already by sitting at your beach themed table. I love your use of pastel and very tranquil colors. I always hoped to have a book club gathers but live in such a rural area where only few take interest in reading. The menu sounds delicious and the table would be so relaxing and inspiring. Best wishes for good health, your trip to the beach and more of your beautiful tables.

  26. Ricki Jill, first, congratulations on your important milestone. I hope that you have smooth sailing from here on. I love the idea of a tablescape set with a book club theme. I’m an avid reader, too. And I think this is such an original idea. Your blue and yellow color scheme is always a classic and just right for summertime reading. No better place to read than on the beach. Hope you get there soon.

  30. Ricki Jill not sure what happened to my comment but I will do another. I hear ya on the chemo....I had almost 10 months of chemo and radiation to rid my body of Pancreatic cancer. It consisted of 4 different chemos and I not only had it pumping through me at the Florida cancer center for 5 hours every other week but I took a pump home with me and had to have it pumping into me for 3 more days. It really made me sick and I couldn't get out of bed and by the time I would start feeling a little better, it was time to start all over. BUT it was worth it as God brought me through this very dark period of my life. I am so glad you were able to ring the bell, I still have not done that although I have thanked all my caretakers profusely as they were so patient with me. You are in my prayers. Your tablescape is lovely and I understand your desire for beaches and sunshine. Bless you!!! Kari @ Me and My Cptain

The umbrella placemats are so fun and look great with your MacKenzie Childs plates. The little table in the middle makes a perfect centerpiece with the books and flowers. I'm totally crushing over those English wine cups with the blue stripe. Thanks for the summer reading suggestions, too! It was fun hopping with you. Happy Summer!
