Literary Friday: Christmas Edition Featuring Christmas Romcoms

Happy Literary Friday, My Lovelies!  Today I'm sharing three cute Christmas book "mini reviews" with y'all.

A Christmas in the Alps by Melody Carlson was chosen for me to read by you, the readers.  It's short, and I love the setting of the French Alps.  Simone Winthrop leaves California for France in search of a treasure left to her by her great-grandmother.  She meets clock and watch enthusiast Kyle Larsson on the flight over, and he is a new apprentice at her family's clock factory.  Romance and family intrigue abound in this faith-based story.

So This Is Christmas by Tracy Andreen is a hilarious YA book about awkward teen Finley Brown from Christmas, Oklahoma who changes her town's website to make it look like a beautiful Hallmark town with all the Christmas things.  Her goal is to impress the snobby students at her East Coast boarding school, and when one of the cutest boys at her school travels with his British aunt to Christmas to enjoy an All-American Christmas, mayhem and hilarity ensues.  I highly recommend this one, and don't judge me for reading YA books!

I read Comfort & Joy years ago, long before I read The Nightingale (also by Kristin Hannah).  Joy Candellaro is not in the holiday spirit because her husband has left her for her sister.  Determined to get out of town, she drives to the airport and boards a plane for the Pacific Northwest.  The plane crashes, and things get weird quickly.  This one has supernatural elements, romance, a little boy who will break your heart, and an unbelievable conclusion.  Your suspension of disbelief might be tried with this one.  It's hard to believe that it was written by the same author who wrote The Nightingale because it's so different.

Here is today's Chrismon:

The Greek letters for the word fish is an acrostic for Jesus Christ, God's Son, Savior.
It is one of the most ancient symbols for our Lord, and it was used as a secret sign among early Christians.

Today's scripture:

All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet:  “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”).

When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife.  But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.

Matthew 1:22-25

Until next time...

Blessings!
