Advent Day 2

Thursday, December 2, 2021

Happy Thursday, My Lovelies!

How was your first day of Advent?  I spent mine decorating for Christmas.  Everything is done but the tree, and our plan is to decorate it tonight.

Today I want to share with you a lovely Daily Advent Devotional by Susie Larson entitled Prepare Him Room.  I probably should've shared it yesterday at the beginning of Advent, but I had a lot of other things to share!  If you think it's something you'd like to get for Advent, you wouldn't be that far behind schedule.

I started it yesterday, and so far I'm really enjoying it!  I'll share a full review after Christmas.

This is what Goodreads says about it:

What Matters Most This Christmas Season?

Christmas should be a time of joy and celebration. But in the hurriedness of December, sometimes we find ourselves sacrificing a sacred pace for hustle, leaving us feeling more stressed than blessed.

What if you approached this Advent more open to the things of God? What if you decided to be expectant that God would move in your midst? What if you made room for the true joy found in the coming of our King?

Prepare Him Room invites you to give God sacred space in your holiday season as you ponder the miracle of Christ within you and respond to His work in your life. As you begin your Christmas preparations this year, journey through Luke's account of Jesus' birth, life, death, and ultimate resurrection. God invites you to be still and let Jesus radically transform you this holy season. Let earth receive her King!

I can't think of a better book than Luke's gospel to study during Advent.

Here is today's Advent Chrismon:

It's a palm branch

With the symbol of the palm branch, we are reminded of Jesus triumphant entry into Jerusalem and the shouts of Hosanna (Save Us!) that the people cried.

Today's scripture:

The people walking in darkness
    have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of deep darkness
    a light has dawned.
You have enlarged the nation
    and increased their joy;
they rejoice before you
as people rejoice at the harvest,
as warriors rejoice
    when dividing the plunder.
For as in the day of Midian’s defeat,
    you have shattered
the yoke that burdens them,
    the bar across their shoulders,
    the rod of their oppressor.
Every warrior’s boot used in battle
and every garment rolled in blood
will be destined for burning,
will be fuel for the fire.
For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
    Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the greatness of his government and peace
    there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s throne
    and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it
    with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever.
The zeal of the Lord Almighty
    will accomplish this.

Isaiah 9:2-7

Until next time...

Blessings!

  1. I love this, Ricki Jill. For you to take the time to create these daily posts is a gift, thank you. I began Christmas Matters yesterday, along with another small devotional I received. My Christmas season already feels so much less hurried, coming out of months of moving. It makes me grateful to be able to enjoy Christmas in this frame of mind this year!
