Before I Forget....

Wednesday, October 6, 2021

Happy Wednesday, My Lovelies!  Do you ever do or see things, and you think: "I should really share this with my blog readers because they might like this!"  I do.  And then I forget, and I never get around to sharing whatever it is I thought y'all might like.  So today I thought I'd share some of those things with y'all while I listen to the rain that never seems to stop....lol...

The first thing I want to share is a new houseplant (or at least it's new to me).  I saw it at Collier's Nursery here in Birmingham, and I decided to purchase one for our home.

It's called a calathea, and it's in the prayer plant family.  I love the pinks and reds in the leaves.

Sorry I couldn't get a better photo but it's cloudy and dark outside, and this is right by a window!
I love the glossy, colorful leaves.

I realized I didn't show you our side yard when I shared our front yard reveal:

From left to right we have holly trees, knockout roses (they have been cut way down), gardenias, encore azaleas (in the very back), something bright green and I don't know what it is, and more Shi Shi Gashira Camellias.  The grassy trail leads to our patio.

Recently I tried a new white chili recipe, and everyone loved it.  I found it on the BH&G website, and it's quick and super easy.  Everyone liked the suggested toppings, too.

I've read several books lately because I have a hard time sleeping at night.  They were all good reads!

I believe this is the last Agatha Raisin mystery written while M.C. Beaton was still alive.  I love the Agatha Raisin Series on Acorn.  Have you seen it?  If you're looking for something fun to binge watch before Hallmark's Countdown to Christmas starts, I highly recommend it.  Agatha Raisin is a retired PR executive who sells her highly successful firm to retire to a cottage in a charming Cotswolds village.  This is a dream she's had since childhood.  She becomes a private detective because she solves murder mysteries better than the police in her area.

Love and Fury is about Mary Shelley's famous feminist mother, Mary Wollstonecraft.  Wollstonecraft died just days after giving birth to Mary, and the premise of the book is her telling Mary the story of her life before passing.  It's a very well written literary novel, and it was my book club's September selection.

The Fifth Avenue Story Society is a faith-based novel, and I really enjoyed it.  Five people receive mysterious invitations to join the society held in a beautiful pubic library's reading room.  The members spend time trying to figure out why they were invited for most of the book, but in the meantime, they form a bond that allows each to help the others heal from previous hurts.  This is my favorite  Rachel Hauck book so far.

On Friday I'll share my review of The Gathering Table.  You can read an excerpt HERE.

Rita @ Panoply is hosting a Halloween Tablescape Blog Hop on October 12th.  Be there or be square!

And finally.....I have been inspired!!!  Which can be dangerous according to Mr. Bookish!

What's inspiring you today?  I'd like to know!

Until next time...

Blessings!
Ricki Jill

  3. Oh that floral arrangement is just so pretty, I had to peek at it several times. I'm also interested in that Hot To Trot book. It reminds me of that old show Happy Days. Funny...off to check out the series and see if my library has it, since our local bookstore just shut down after something like 40 years. So sad....

  4. Fun post, Ricki Jill! The cooler weather is inspiring me. I'm refreshing the terrace containers and organizing some storage. Much to do, but cooler temps make it easier to get myself busy.
Loving forward to the table hop next week.

I need a real plant out here in my lanai. I got rid of my Christmas cactus. Don't ask....! lol I'm having fun with junk journals and little books right now. Hugs!

  6. Right now I'm totally uninspired and overwhelmed. This will pass! I adore the Agatha Raisin series. It just makes me laugh! I've never read the books, though. And I love your yard and the plant is a good one. I need to catch up!
