Advent Day 1

Tuesday, December 1, 2015

Happy Advent Season, My Lovelies!  This year on my Advent Calendar I want to share Christmas traditions from around the world along with a daily scripture reading.

It has been so dark here today with the rain and clouds that the exterior lights came on at 2:30.  I don't have many photos to show you of my calendar (and my process), but I'll take photos of the overall calendar as soon as the sun's out!

Today's featured tradition is from the Ukraine.  Father Frost visits all the children in a sleigh pulled by only three reindeer.  He brings along a young girl named Snowflake Girl. She wears a silver blue costume trimmed with white fur and a crown shaped like a snowflake.  Father Frost and Snowflake Girl sound like a superhero duo to me!

This year I'm using 7 Gypsies Trading Cards for the base for my calendar pages.  Today's card has ephemera, ink, glue, and glitter.

Snowflake Girl reminds me of Susie Snowflake.  We had to sing it for our second grade Christmas play.  The first graders got to dress up in costumes, and I was so jealous of the little girl who got to portray Susie Snowflake.

Check it out!

Luke 1: 16 - 17:

16 He will bring back many of the people of Israel to the Lord their God. 17 And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous—to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.

We've been decorating for Christmas, so I hope you'll stop by later in the week and take a look at our decorations.  Again, I can't take good photos in weather like this!

Thursday I'll share a wonderful recipe to make with your leftover turkey.

Until next time...

Blessings!
