Welcome Fall Tablescape: Textured Neutrals

Tuesday, August 27, 2024

Hello, My Lovelies!  Welcome to my party!  If you're hopping in order, you just left Cecilia's blog My Thrift Store Addiction.  Didn't you just love her transferware for fall?  I'm so excited about today's post because it's part of a tablescape blog hop welcoming fall.  I can't wait to be inspired by the fifteen other stylists participating because it wouldn't be fun to only set one table for fall, now, would it?!?!?  I will be borrowing their ideas in the near future.

Thank-you, Rita, for hosting these blog hops.
I always enjoy them and look forward to participating.

It's a tradition in our home to ease into autumn with white and neutral things, partly because it is so hot here in Central Alabama at the beginning of the season.  Usually the first fall tablescape I put together has our white Pottery Barn leaf and acorn plates on it.  This year, I was going to do something a little different, and our daughter got upset and wanted me to use the Pottery Barn plates, so I did.  I know y'all have seen them before, but we do love them.  Another tradition we enjoy is taking our our set of white glass pumpkins;  I already have them displayed in the art studio.

The plate stack is simple with a Longaberger neutral basketweave plate under our leaf and acorn plates.  Both are resting on a willow placemat, and the table runner is a new purchase from Anthropologie.  I loved the neutral check with the highlighter yellow trim.

Clockwise from Top Left:  We have honeycrisp apple and oak scented candles on the table to help us get into the spirit of fall.

We enjoy eating breakfast outside this time of the year because the mornings are cooler.  On these special days we can take our plates and coffee outside, and the cutlery holders are also handy for this.  The coffee press and espresso cups and saucers are new for fall from the Magnolia Collection at Target.  I love how the cups and saucers are fluted.

Our centerpieces are marigolds and white violets in pretty neutral pots.

Our limelights have been out of control this year.  They have enjoyed the rain and all the heat.

I was inspired by this centerpiece from Terrain.  I love the trough look, but I decided to use the three neutral pots I already had.

Clockwise from Top Left:  I continued the neutral theme with the candlesticks and candles.  The only bright colors on the table are the yellows and oranges from the marigolds and highlighter yellow stripe on the table runner.

The pumpkin salt and pepper shaker set is made up of pretty neutrals.  The under napkin is a brown and white check in a darker shade compared to the table runner.

The brown leather napkin ring adds a little bit of masculinity to the table.

It's a simple table with lots of neutrals and textures, and I think it's appropriate for this time of the year here in Central Alabama.

  2. This table of neutrals is so pretty and a lovely way to transition into fall in the South. I've never seen you not use color! I love your PB leaf and acorn plates, the way you did the napkins and the flatware holders. The pumpkins add a great fall touch too. A lovely table to enjoy a meal!

  3. Ricki, marigolds tend to be overlooked when styling interiors, but they bring such cheery warmth and interesting leaf patterns to the table. Their intricate leaves are a lovely counterpoint to the pretty leaf plates. I love the textures you've used. I enjoyed hopping with you today!

  4. The neutrals for a fall transition are perfect for Alabama - it's like fields of cotton! Your PB salads on the Longaberger are classics and, together with the new Magnolia cups and saucers, all seem to appear as part of one china collection, seriously! So much texture in the make of each those, fabulous. I adore those cutlery pockets, and the textiles add the pattern (and just enough color in that runner) to pull it all together with the florals. While I also love that mauve look from your early fall table, this is a tried and true way to usher in the season with the neutrals. Speaking of inspiration from our fellow bloggers in this hop, I think I need a set of willow placemats like yours!
Thank you for bringing your creativity to the table for this hop, Ricki Jill! I love your artistic eye!

  7. Ricki Jill, the neutrals are perfect for this time of year in Alabama. It was 98 here today. I am so ready for cooler weather. The Pottery Barn salad plates are beautiful and I love that your daughter wanted to keep the tradition of using them. Our son is the same way and it makes me happy to pull out what we used when he was growing up. I enjoy a French press and your espresso cups are so pretty. Your table has beautiful neutral patterns and textures! Wishing you a blessed Autumn season!

  10. Love the neutral palate as a transition into autumn. The quiet feel to this table setting is in anticipation of the riotous colors that come with the Fall season. the checked runner and the textured woven placemats are a favorite. The pots on the table and the sideboard add to the calm feel of the table...lovely transition into Fall.

I like how you put your own spin on the centrepiece inspiration. The willow placemats are so pretty, I really need to find myself something similar! Tucking one napkin into another is really eye catching, and I think I will be borrowing that idea! Such a pleasure hopping with you!

  14. Ricki Jill, your table is beautiful! I love colorful tables (like your mauve one - so pretty), but neutrals always tug at my heart. Your plate stack is absolutely stunning and I love your family tradition of neutral colors to ease into fall. Be still my heart at those leaf and acorn plates and your new table runner is gorgeous. The napkins are so pretty and I adore the brown gingham napkins underneath. The marigolds are so pretty too and add such a wonderful pop of color to tie in with the yellow stripe on the table runner. Just lovely, all of it. I hope your temps cool off a bit and it was a pleasure hopping with you. Happy almost fall!

I love the look of the Terrain trough too, but I like the way you used your white pots. The new runner is a perfect base, and the leaf plates are a great nod to autumn. Yes, happy fall y'all!
