Valentine's Update

Tuesday, February 15, 2022

Roses as they fade are still beautiful, aren't they!

Happy Tuesday, Lovelies!  Today I'm taking down all winter and Valentine's decor (I'm so ready for spring) and I'll be decorating a little bit for Mardi Gras.

Lately I've been doing a little organizing:
  • spices
  • tons of craft paper and crafty things
  • kitchen drawers
  • master bath drawers

I'm still working on the craft paper stash.  I'm organizing all the papers, tags, etc. according to season.   It is taking a long time because I had a blogger/Instagrammer gift me with a lot of paper, especially from Daphne's Diary Magazine, which is my favorite.  I keep getting distracted, though, by playing:

This is a fun sticker activity.  I had to play with it!

I've also been drinking a whole lot of tea...

This one is from Kitty.

...and reading lots of books and painting a little bit.

Here are the books I've read or have been reading.  I will be sharing them soon here on the blog.

The Book Charmer made my favorite book list in 2019, and the second book in the Dove Pond Series, A Cup of Silver Linings, is even better!

I read the Scottish Bookshop Mysteries, and it might be one of the best cozy mystery series  I've ever read.  Book seven comes out in April, so if you want to get started on these you could be caught up for the new release.  These are quick reads because they're hard to put down!

I checked-out these books from the library, and it's about a sleepy commuter town north of Chicago.  You will love the characters in these books: This is a very promising series.
I might purchase these for our home library because I could see myself re-reading these.
Katherine Reay is also the author of Dear Mr. Knightly and The Austen Escape.

Next I'll be reading the Bakeshop Mystery Series.
These are books six through ten.  I've decided to go back and read the entire series, from start to finish, through book 14.  The fifteenth in the series doesn't come out until the end of June, so I should have plenty of time to read them.

I bought a few more houseplants, and will share some of them soon:

These are a few of our ferns in the dining room.

That's about all for my update.  The first couple of weeks of the month I was a little sick, and I just knew I had covid because I was exposed here at home, but it turns out that it was only allergies and asthma.  For some reason our air quality has been in the poor category the past two weeks here in Birmingham, which is very unusual for February; we usually see numbers like these in August.  I had been sitting outside a lot for Vitamin D, and that was a big mistake.  I am now getting air quality alerts on my iPhone so I can make better decisions!

I hope you had a great Valentine's Day.

This heart is for you!

Until next time...

Blessings!
Ricki Jill

  5. There is nothing prettier or mood elevating than fresh flowers, especially pink ones! I'm not familiar with the Scottish Bookshop mysteries but I have read several of the Bakeshop mysteries and enjoyed them. I haven't read Kathrine Reay, must check them out! Tomorrow is going to be a good day to curl up and read...Love you flower petal heart ❤️

  8. Like you I love pretty papers and gift tags and I love your idea of organizing by season, I really need to do that. Sweet how you are using floral bouquets as book ends, so pretty. You have some interesting book titles, I look forward to your reviews. Still enjoying valentine's flowers and much to much candy here......

  9. What a lovely post! I'm loving all the crafting you are sharing -- all of which is lovely. I went through one big paper purge in the fall and need to do another, along with all the supplies I won't be using again. I wish my blog crafting buddies were closer. Do you need anything? Stamps? Sharpies? Papers? Let me know and I'll send a care package!

The books all look like my kind of thing so thanks for the excellent recommendations. And I'm in love with fading roses, too. They stay lovely for such a long while. Do you save the petals? Sometimes I do.

I'm so glad it wasn't Covid and that you are feeling better now. Hang on for this weekend's (or maybe this week's) weather. It looks like we're both in for stuff over the next couple of days.
