Valentine's Day Tradition

Tuesday, January 25, 2022

Hello, My Lovelies!
Welcome to the Valentine's Day Tablescape Blog Hop hosted by the very sweet Rita @ Panoply!

Thank-you so much for hosting!

Today I'm sharing not only a Valentine's Day tablescape with y'all, I'm also sharing a Valentine's Day tradition.  Since our daughters were little, I've always planned a nice breakfast because the girls wanted their Valentine's Day goodies before they left for the bus stop.  I would wake-up super-early, cook a fun, Valentine's Day themed breakfast, and have their Valentines by their plates on the breakfast bar.

Although only one daughter is still at home, and she leaves for work at 4:30 AM, I still keep the tradition going for Mr. Bookish and me.  Mr. Bookish often has early cases, so the breakfast will be very simple, yet festive.  First, let's take a look at how I've decorated:

I chose blue elements because blue is Mr. Bookish's favorite color.  The heart serving tray is for the muffins.

I set-up the tablescape on the far end of the dining room table, close to the windows.  I'm hopeful it will be a warmer, sunny morning on Valentine's Day!

The Tea for Two set ties together the blues and reds:

I found the roses at the grocery store, and I loved the deep crimson edges.

I will replace the roses for Valentine's Day, and I will probably choose red ones.

I chose the toast rack and milk jug because of the blue letters.

Resources:
Nothing is new on the table other than the flowers.
Rectangular heart platter: Williams Sonoma
Tea for Two tea set:  Anthropologie
Plates:  Royal Stafford
Ceramic hearts:  White Flowers
Wooden heart:  Longaberger
Heart placemats:  Vintage
Table runner and napkins: Shabby Chic
Toast rack and milk jug:  Keith Brymer Jones pottery
Blue flower frog:  Etsy
White thistle vases and King Ferry flower frog:  Mackenzie-Childs
Glittery berry trees:  Leaf 'n Petal
Hurricane:  Pier1
Honeypot:  Waterford Lismore

Let's open up the menu and check it out:

Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter for heart-shaped toast.
I'll be serving cinnamon toast because Mr. Bookish loves it, but a red fruit jam is also a good option for Valentine's Day.

Yesterday, I posted a wonderful, low sugar chocolate zucchini muffin recipe.  They can be baked ahead of time because they rewarm in the microwave very well.

  1. Ricki Jill, this is so romantic. My Mr. would love this for a sweet surprise (literally and figuratively). So very thoughtful of you to include what you know your hubby likes insofar as your colorway goes. It's so cheerful! I adore how you used the corner of your table to create the cozy table for two (Anthropologie for the win). The Longaberger heart - nice vintage piece! And those ceramic hearts - {sigh}. Especially the one marked Forever. {double sigh}. Thank you for sharing your goodies in such a good - make that great - way! ♥

  4. What a sweet tradition! I adore the little white vases and I think I am going to spray paint the two that M-C gifted me as I am not fond of the colors. The "tea for two pot" is adorable! Have a Happy Valentines Day!

  14. So pretty Rick Jill! I love the addition of blue at your table in honor of your hubby! Your pretty Anthro tea-for-two ties it all together. I've seen your Royal Stafford blue plates, but never two-tone like that, so unique. I'm craving a chocolate zucchini muffin now. :) As always it's a treat to hop with you. ♥

  20. I love romance and am a romantic at heart and your table screams "romance" starting in the early morning hours. I am also an early riser and to be able to have a quiet romantic start to you and your honey's day is so sweet, tender and memorable. I did things like that for my children and I also carry out such traditions now that they are out of the house. thanks for sharing your Valentine Day plans with us.

  22. Ricki Jill, there is something very festive about the combination of blue and red and a mix of patterns. I feel like I am out in the countryside celebrating Valentine's Day with plenty of sunshine and warm weather. Your split plates are very unique and they are so fun mixed with your Antro Tea for Two collection. Your choice of red tipped roses are perfect for this combination. It is a tablescape that could be set for long after Valentine's Day for more heart shaped cinnamon toast and delicious chocolate zucchini muffins. So cheerful! Happy Valentine's Day with your whole family!

  24. I love to hear about Valentine traditions and yours is a sweet one! When my daughter was younger, every year we hosted a Valentine tea party for her, three friends and their dolls. You've brought back lovely memories. The red-rimmed roses are so unusual! The table setting and delicious breakfast will be a wonderful treat that morning.

  25. RJ, Somehow I missed your Valentine's Day post, so happy you added a link for it in today's post. Love how you are continuing the tradition of breakfast with Mr. Bookish, very special indeed. Also, how you have added his favorite color to the table. I always enjoy a little sweet start for our Valentine's Day too. I bought cinnamon bread today for toast for our special day. I'll add our favorite cards we've shared over the years to the table too. Wishing you both a very lovely day......
