Anne of Green Gables Tea Party

Friday, August 7, 2020

Welcome to our Tea Party!

My friend Anne Shirley and I are so happy you're here.  You see, Anne has made some mistakes lately, and she needs a do-over...or two... Anne chose the heart teapot because it is "romantical."

Oh, Anne, bless your heart....You have made a couple of mistakes.  But today is a brand new day, and you can make-up for the Liniment Cake you accidentally baked.

"'Mercy on us, Anne, you've flavored that cake with Anodyne Liniment.  I broke the liniment bottle last week and poured what was left into an old empty vanilla bottle.  I suppose it's partly my fault- I should have warned you- but for pity's sake, why couldn't you have smelled it?'"
~Marilla Cuthbert

This is Anne's do-over number one: a strawberry cake, NOT a liniment cake!

Anne likes sugar cubes because they are more "romantical"!

Anne's second do-over is raspberry cordial.  Anne made a HUGE mistake when she invited Diana over for tea:

"Diana poured herself out a tumblerful, looked at its bright-red hue admiringly, and then sipped it daintily."

Except Anne mistakenly served Diana currant wine rather than raspberry cordial.  It was "tragical."

This is real raspberry cordial.

Anne and I thought it would be a good idea to serve something savory, so we chose cheese straws.

Our hot tea selection is Nina's Paris Marie Antoinette tea.  It has rose petals in it.  Very, very romantical!

This sweet book, The Anne of Green Gables Cookbook, inspired our tea.

Here is the recipe for raspberry cordial:

Raspberry Cordial

Ingredients:

1 package (10 oz) frozen unsweetened raspberries
3/4 c sugar
1 large lemon
2 cups water

Procedure:

1.   Put the unthawed raspberries in a medium saucepan and add the sugar.

2.   Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, for 15 - 20 minutes, until all the sugar has dissolved.

3.   With a potato masher, mash the raspberries thoroughly.

4.   Pour the mixture through a strainer, extracting all the liquid.  Discard the pulp.

5.  Squeeze the juice of one lemon through a strainer and add it to the raspberry liquid.

6.   Boil the water, and then add it to the raspberry liquid.

7.   Let the cordial cool before serving.

Cook's Note:   I like to serve it with one part cordial to one part citrus flavored tonic water.  That's how we served it at the tea party!

We have enjoyed having you at our party.  Anne is appreciative of having the opportunity to redeem herself!

I want to thank Sarah at Classical Homemaking for hosting this fun Link Party.  Please visit her blog so you can link to the other parties!
