We Want to Know Wednesday: It's Summertime! L@@K at My Homemade Popsicle!

Wednesday, July 3, 2013

{no. 1} Now that it is officially Summer, what season is your favorite and why?
Tough question because I really like the change of seasons, and all of them have their strengths.  I love spring because of the flowering trees and warm sunshine;  I love summer because of lazy days floating in the lake; I love autumn because it's college football season and I love buying school supplies; Winter is my least favorite, but I love snow skiing and Christmas.  If I had to pick a favorite, though, I'd pick spring.

{no. 2} What does Summer look like in your house? Sound like?
Summer is very chaotic with horse shows, going back and forth to the lake on weekends, and getting ready for the start of school which starts early here. We cook and entertain a bunch at the lake, and it seems I can never get things done because we're constantly traveling back and forth between Dadeville and Birmingham.  One sound you hear a lot is the door opening and shutting a bunch, especially the upper level sliding doors onto the large porch at the cabin.

{no. 3} Recount a Summer memory from your childhood.
I remember Fourth of July BBQ's with my grandmother grilling chicken at my great-aunt's lake house (at a different lake in Alabama).  We always had watermelon, and we take the rinds down to the shore for the ducks.  I loved watching the ducks at Smith Lake!  Last week I posted about making mud pies with Paulette Alexander when I was a little girl.  You can read the post here.

{no. 4} Do you have 4th of July plans?
Yes!  We're at our cabin at Lake Martin.  We spend every Independence Day here, and we boat, ski, wake skate, grill, picnic, and travel by boat to see the fireworks.  Shelley's sixteenth birthday is Sunday, and we're also responsible for snacks after church.  We love our outdoor, lakeside church!

{no. 5} Does it get super hot where you are in the Summer and how do you deal with it?
Yes, it's hot and humid!  We live in Central Alabama, so it can get in the 100's with 100% humidity.  We deal with it by floating in the lake and making lots of frozen treats!

...and speaking of summertime heat and how to deal..... Although the weather is rainy now and not too hot,   we're still enjoying fun summertime treats, like these homemade Raspberry Popsicles. I tried it from the July issue of Country Living Magazine.

Ingredients:
1 cup Fresh Raspberries
3/4 cup Sour Cream
1/4 cup Buttermilk
3 tablespoons Honey

Directions:
In a large bowl, smash raspberries with the back of a fork. Add remaining ingredients, and stir to combine.
Pour mixture into ice-pop molds and freeze for 30 minutes. Insert a wooden stick into each pop; then freeze for at least 2 more hours.

I'll be back on Friday with a very interesting Literary Friday post!

I hope my fellow Americans have a wonderful Fourth of July!!!

Until next time...

Blessings!
