Blog Changes

Thursday, August 16, 2012

Thanks so much for your kind comments and emails about my blog. Y'all have been so kind to me!

One reason I was so upset on Tuesday is that a sports website wrote an article about Alabama football game days and used a photo from my blog without my permission.  The comments were snarky about the Greeks and how they dress for football games, and it hurt my daughter's feelings.  Beth is the best bloggy friend because after reminding the website in question about privacy and copyright issues, they promptly removed the image.    :D Thank-you, Beth!

The other issue I will not discuss here.

Others of you have given me some good advice and links to help me with my decision.  If I go private, you can follow only if I have your email on my list. That means that you would have to sign-in to your email in order to read my blog.  That adds an extra step which is annoying.  Plus I would not be able to participate in link parties on my blog or on others' blogs.

So for now, I will keep my blog as is.  But if one more odd occurrence happens, or if I feel threatened in any way, I will change my blog to private.

So what do I do when I am very upset?  Paint.  And not on canvas.  I paint walls!  When my friends ask, "What are you doing?" and I say, "Painting the _______ room."  They immediately *gasp* and ask, "What's happened?"  ;P

There is a hint on one of my Pinterest boards about one of the projects I am working on. Here are some clues:

I will post a reveal next week.  I want to finish this weekend because school starts Monday. Yay! :D  I will visit y'all tonight and tomorrow night.  I can't wait to see what y'all have been up to while I have been totally redecorating two rooms upstairs!

I will also post a Literary Friday post tomorrow.  I hope to see you then!

Until next time...

Blessings!

  1. I am glad you are staying as is but it is a fear we all live with when we put ourselves out there I guess. So scary. At times I have thought of going back and deleting all photos of my kids. Still may do that. It is so fun to see what the kids are up to though so I am torn. I loved that photo of your daughter and how they dressed so nicely for the games. After two days of dropping my daughter at school I am appalled out how skimpy some dress. What do their mother's do? Why aren't they monitoring this? Maybe they dress that way too. I guess a few were sent home to change yesterday that my daughter knew of. She had a good day and is liking it so far but time will tell.

  2. I can't wait to see your room. I can see it is going to be very pretty. I am also glad you are keeping your blog open for now and hope all goes well.

I have a copyright on my blogs too, but people still take things, especially with pinterest around. I hope things do get better with you and no more problems with blogging.

  3. I'm glad you've decided to stay as is, at least for now - although I certainly don't blame you for being upset over what happened! The Internet can be an unsettling place... I hope nothing else happens!!

You know, I've never painted before. Ever. The house I'm renting would be so much nicer if I could get up the will to paint, but I'm so nervous about it!! I'm afraid of making a mess!!

  4. At least you do positive things when you are stressed out! I'm glad you decided to keep your blog...and of course I hope nothing else happens to invade your privacy.

  5. The red looks fabulous. Can't wait to see. Painting is so rewarding. Nothing like that first roll of a fresh new color.

  6. Hey there, you know I am not in blogland much here lately, so I am clueless here, but would like to say I am sorry for what happened to you. I try to be careful about what I post becuase I guess it is here for the whole world to see just like Elaine said, and I guess we never know what they can and will do with our "stuff" that we post. I would never do that to someone else, so I guess I just expect the same from others. Anyhoo, even tho I am not around much right now, I am glad you are staying the way you are, and hope you have no further reasons to go private. I am hoping to be back regularly this fall when things slow down a bit, and look forward to visiting more.

  12. Well your blog is newer to me but I'd hate to see you go private. To me it's like letting the bad guys win. One of the bloggers I frequent discovered another blog that was created by copying other postings from various blogs. They had inserted key words that you could click on that would take you to an advertisement. That was the whole purpose...they had no followers or interaction with others. A bunch of people banned together to complain and within a few days google took down their web site. Anyway, I think there will always be people who steal pictures etc., so I guess we just have to decide what we will let be shared with the world.

  13. I think this was a good reminder to many of what could happen. It shouldn't happen, but it may. I get some judgment about the nickname usage on my blog, but I am cautious about privacy of family and friends. I'm truly sorry this happened though. You have a terrific bunch of readers rallying for you though.

  16. I can't believe how negative people can be - it is one of the reasons I like blogging, as by and large people are kind and supportive. I'm so sorry the negative events have got you down. I hope you are able to continue with the blog the way it is as your blog is a wonderful contribution to blogland. If you go private then I for sure want to be included, my friend. What a note to read when I logged on after being at the cottage. I hope the room you are painting is working out well - maybe you should get upset and then come and visit my house. It could do with some painting ;)

  18. I would have gladly taken whatever steps needed to continue following your blog. You are one of the most real bloggers out there. I am sorry all this happened...I know when something happens to one of your kids it is worse than having it happen to you. Some people just don't get it. Whatever you decide in the future, you have a follower for life in me. :o) Looking forward to your reveals!

  20. Hi Ricki! I'm glad to know about your decision. It would be equally sad when you decide to go private. Your blog deserves to be read by everyone.

    Have a great week!

  21. You're very welcome! I hope nothing like that occurs again (but if it does, Bulldog Beth is on the case! heeheee).

I look forward to seeing the...carnival (?) themed room! I love painting walls, too. :)
