It's Never Too Late by Kathie Lee Gifford

Tuesday, March 9, 2021

Happy Tuesday, My Lovelies!  Today I'm reviewing It's Never Too Late by Kathie Lee Gifford.  I confess that I am a fan, and I fondly remember watching Live With Regis and Kathie Lee when I was a young mother with young children.  I also love how she has never been ashamed of the Gospel of Christ...she is one fearless lady!

According to Goodreads:

NEW YORK TIMES, WALL STREET JOURNAL, and USA TODAY BESTSELLER with more than 100k sold!

Former Today show host Kathie Lee Gifford draws on stories from her remarkable life to weave together a beautiful reminder that whatever circumstances we face, God is still dreaming big for our years ahead.

When Kathie Lee Gifford stepped down as cohost of the fourth hour of the Today show with Hoda Kotb, you might have thought her best days were behind her. It turns out, she was just getting started. As Kathie Lee says, “I’m not retiring; I’m refiring!”

Taking us from her Chesapeake Bay childhood when she first heard God’s calling, to her skyrocketing fame with Regis, to her decision to leave television for Nashville, Kathie Lee inspires us to pursue what really matters. Because it’s never too late to forgive, to dance the cha-cha, or to make a difference in the world.

God placed His dreams in your heart for a reason. And like Kathie Lee, you might just discover that the best is yet to come. Whether you’re an empty nester, newly single, navigating a career change, or just eager for any change, Kathie Lee helps you hear God’s loving calling because It’s Never Too Late to . . .

Begin Again
Make Sparks Fly
Leave a Good Thing
Have a Party
Change the Ending, Then Change It Again
Is it time for you to rewrite your story, unearth your hidden passions, and live with a renewed purpose? It’s never too late.

My Review:

I could not put this book down....I found it engrossing!  I knew I would like it because I'm a fan, but I was not expecting to be as fascinating as it is. The chapters are basically colorful vignettes from Kathie Lee's life: Some are happy, a few are tragic, but all encourage the reader to dare to dream because regardless of age, God still has a plan for you.

With all of Kathie Lee's looking back on her own life, it seems like the book does not live up to its title It's Never Too Late.  However most chapter endings do explain how her particular lesson in said chapter can apply to the future.  One might ask, "How can most readers apply anything from Kathie Lee's life to their own?"  She is beautiful, talented, wealthy, and has a plethora of rich and influential friends (not many of us have ever had a luncheon with Al Pacino comparing stories).  I think it's her honesty and humility that resonate.  It was also a joy to read how God speaks to her,  how she sets aside time to be still and listen to that still, small voice.  There are examples of "Godwinks" throughout.

She talks about her wine.  A lot.  No judgement here, but I am intrigued and want to try it now.  She also talks a bit about her new chapter with songwriting and movies, dreams that have been on the back burner until recently.  Her chapters begin with lyrics from songs she's written, and one of them I really like: "Whiskey and Wine."  She performs it in her new movie Then Came You (also starring Craig Ferguson).  It's from Chapter 14: "Make a Toast."  It's the story of how she went into the wine business (GIFFT Wines), and how her wine became a constant prop on the set with Hoda on The Fourth Hour of the Today Show.

Saturday night, Mr. Sketchy Reader and I rented and watched Then Came You.  Mr. Sketchy wasn't happy about it because he likes suspenseful thrillers, not romantic comedies.  We enjoyed it, and Mr. Sketchy and I laughed out loud quite a bit.  There are several really funny lines in it, and Kathie Lee's character Annabelle was a little quirky and fearless in a worrisome kind of way.  Annabelle's wardrobe is actually reason enough to watch the movie.  Read the book (it's a quick read), then watch the movie.  Both will make you smile.

I'd like to thank Thomas Nelson (the publisher) and TLC Book Tours for providing me a hardcover copy of the book in exchange for a fair and honest review.  Thanks for inviting me to be a part of the tour!

  5. I immediately googled Kathy and then watched her music video Love Me to Death with Brett James, and watched the trailer for Then Came You. My husband shamelessly loves to watch happy ending RomCom movies with me. I want to see this! She is adorable. I know a lot of people don't like but I do! This book sounds good to me, kinda the way I see my life and how it unfolded!
