Beeswax Food Wrap

Thursday, May 20, 2021

Happy Thursday, My Lovelies!  Today I'm sharing with you a very easy beeswax food wrap craft.  I will use these in the place of plastic wrap or baggies.

Here are the supplies you'll need to complete the craft:

cotton fabric
wax beads
tablespoon for measuring wax beads
thin twine (optional)
buttons (optional)
pinking shears
iron
ironing board
parchment paper

Instructions:

Cover your ironing board with one sheet of parchment paper.  Lay your fabric square on top of the parchment.  Note: I cut my fabric in 10" squares using pinking shears.  This is the perfect size for covering a bowl or wrapping a sandwich.

Next, add 1 1/2 tablespoons of your wax beads.

Cover with another piece of parchment.  Make sure your parchment paper is cut much larger than your fabric so you won't get wax on your iron and ironing board!

Iron with your iron on the cotton setting.  As you iron, you can push the melting wax to cover your fabric.  You will be able to see this process well through the parchment paper.

Let it cool for a few minutes and then peel the parchment off.  Repeat the process with other fabric squares.

You can use a string and button to make a cute tie to hold your sandwich wrap shut, or you can use a ribbon to hold your wrap in place to cover a bowl.

Wax wraps can be washed with a soapy washcloth.  Do not use hot water!  Also, they are not safe to use with raw meat or hot food.

Full disclosure:  I really like using these for sandwiches.  I think they would be super cute for summertime picnics to coordinate with your picnic basket or napkins.  I will be using them a lot this summer to take breakfast biscuits and sandwiches on our boat.  I was not as enamored using them on bowls for storage.

These beeswax wraps are becoming quite popular.  If you'd like to purchase rather than make them, I found a cute variety at Emma Bridgewater:

You can purchase the beeswax wraps HERE.

Please let me know if you try this craft!

Until next time...

Blessings!
Ricki Jill
