Tales of the Traveling Totes: Tripless (and I'm not referring to my husband)

Hello, My Lovelies!  Happy June!!!

It has been an interesting spring to say the least.  We had two trips planned, and we had to cancel both.

The Countess de Monet is lonely.

But we have been to Lake Marin a couple of weekends, but we spent Memorial Day Weekend anticipating subtropical storm Alberto.  We were fortunate that we didn't incur any damage other than some large tree limbs, but our daughter's college (Judson College) sustained lots of damage due to torrential rains to the equestrian center, and several buildings had basement flooding, including the one that houses the college's servers.  Shelley is taking two distance learning courses this summer (so she wasn't on campus), but with the servers down she can't access her lectures.  Plus, the internet in our neighborhood has been unreliable for the past month.  Lots of frustrated folks around here, and yers they're all first world problems!

Thankfully no one was hurt, and most of the horses are spending their summer off campus, and all are fine.

Since I've been homebound, I thought I''d share a few photos from our garden here at home, and the lovely landscapes around our marina at the lake.

At home:

At Lake Martin:

This morning we're headed to the lake cabin.  In the wee morning hours, our lake cabin security system notified us that there was someone inside.  Mr. Sketchy Reader said he thought it was a passing car, but when he saw the video this morning, a squirrel was smiling at the camera.  Then it took a long leap to the sofa.

I'm so sketched out I'm not going to lie.

It's probably sitting on top of the fridge binge-eating the chips we left when we were last there a couple of weeks ago...

...and these two won't be happy at all about the squirrel.  Mustang Sally in the background has her champion points as a barn dog.

Yep.  This is going to be a fun weekend....

But all is not lost on this post.  I do have friends with much more exciting lives than mine.

Honestly, I think I live the most boring life in America.

Take a look:

During the rainy days I've been organizing; this is my table linen armoire.

So boring.

Thanks for your time and attention.  I promise next time I'll have something more interesting to share!

;P

Until next time...

Blessings!
Ricki Jill

  1. Dear sweet friend, I do hope the damage left behind by the flood waters won't be a total loss for Shelley's school. I hope the online courses she's taking is back up soon so it won't be a loss for the summer. Your gardens are amazing with so many blooming plants. Your hydrangeas are my favorite, just beautiful. Wow, not only one home but the second home, how do you do it!!! Weekends on the lake sound anything but boring RJ. I just hate to hear about the squirrel and I'm sure the pups are not going to be happy about that. Lets home we see some clear weather this weekend. Hugs........

  2. Alberto was much worse inland than on the Gulf! Wow, I didn’t know that about Judson College! Hopefully the squirrel didn’t do damage in your lake home! Your gardens are lovely! I would love for you to share them on my Gardens Galore Link Party that opens Monday, June 4 at 7 a.m. central time! Enjoy your weekend!

  3. Ricki Jill your photos are beautiful. Your gardens take my breath away. Things are just starting to bloom here. This Summer I need to organize my linen closet. Mine will not looking nearly as good as yours! Can you fly here and help me? Bring those sweet fur babies. Have a wonderful time at your cabin and good luck with the squirrel.

  5. So glad that the damage wasn't more from that crazy storm. Your gardens are just stunning. I can't believe those little green tomatoes already. I was jealous of those.
I need to spend some time organizing - so much more fun to do other things - haha!
Enjoy the cabin and the lake. Sounds wonderful. Give that pesky little squirrel a swat!

  6. Hey, it's just real life! I'm glad the storms didn't cause you more problems than they have and soon you'll be so thankful that you got that rain. Your blooms are amazing! I'm jealous!! Hopefully your lake house will be ok but I've heard that squirrels that get in the house can really be a problem.

  7. Au contraire! That linen armoire is anything BUT boring! And life does happen, and the Countess just has to learn to take her lumps with the gravy. I hope there are full recoveries at both the college and at your lake. Otherwise you may have to cut Mustang Sally loose!
Love the garden shots - all about 3-4 weeks ahead of our region. It gives me something to look forward to. :)

  8. Oh, my goodness, we had a squirrel get in our old house one time and I almost went on to my Maker. I chased that stupid thing with a broom until Hubby finally caught him with a fishing net. It was crazy! Such pretty pics of your gardens. Have a great new week!

  10. I know you must have been disappointed your trips got cancelled Ricki Jill, but at least you accomplished wonderful things at home! Your garden is stunning, those hydrangea blooms!! I was sick when I heard about the damage at the college and equestrian center, thank goodness the horses are alright...hopefully the college will get the online situation straightened out soon...As for the squirrel in your lake house, eek! I don't blame you for freaking out, I would too!! Can you call the exterminator or someone to get it out? I HATE squirrels, we have a zillion and they are always making a mess with my pots! I hope you have a happier June, and maybe we can get together soon...

  11. I love your gate! Glad you enjoyed the farmhouse tour, and hope to see you at the barn sale in July. I don't think you would enjoy the warehouse sale since you have quite a distance to travel. The barn sale is much nicer, however I love the warehouse sale because the crowd is less. You could definitely try the hand painted flowers in the living room in your home. Wishing you and the Countess a nice summer. xo

  12. First of all, I love your organizing project. A-1! Good for you. And I have to say, with all that beauty, home isn't a bad place to be.

Back from MD where I had days of rain so I feel for the folks there who are being slammed. And as for the squirrel, get there fast and you might get him out before he does what one (we're pretty sure) did to our cottage a few years ago. We spent four days washing every dish, cleaning like crazy people, taking every towel and bit of bedding to the laundromat. Sending good vibes your way!

  13. Ricki, I was driving in the car and wrote the longest comment on my iPad and it did not go. I was so frustrated. Wish I could recall it. Your flowers are exceptional at your home and at the lake. Don't know how you keep them both so nice.
I do not like squirrels! Can't think of anything nice about them. They have damaged my bird feeder. I hope you find how it got in and sealed it good.
So sorry about the damage at Judson.
