Musical Monday: In Memory of Davy Jones

Monday, March 12, 2012

When I was a little girl, I loved The Monkees TV show.  I was only about three years old when my parents divorced, and my dad was soon drafted and sent to Vietnam because he had a military school background.

I can still remember the first time I saw The Monkees on TV: I thought that Mickey Dolenz was my dad.  I was a funny little girl!  It was very confusing, and I do not recall whether or not I ever asked my mother about it.  I don't know whether this is a very funny story or sad....or maybe a little bit of both! Either way, I loved the Monkees and their music growing up, and I still do.

The Monkees "Daydream Believer"

When I was at The Fresh Market last week, I found some Irish Cream Believer chocolate and Irish cream cookies to go with the coffee.  The two make a great snack, and I will be thinking about the Monkees and Davy Jones while eating the cookies and drinking the coffee.

  1. I liked The Monkees, too. Davy was my favorite, but now I realize Mickey might have been the better singer.

  2. I can vaguely remember watching The Monkees with my older sisters. I was so surprised when he died because I believe he was just in the area performing within the last several months. Enjoy your coffee & cookies in his honor!

  3. Saturday I watched the Phantom of the Opera 25th Anniversary on PBS. We've seen it several times, here and in London. Now for the last two days, I can't get the wonderful melodies out of my head. They are playing on an endless playlist.
My daughter liked the Monkeys back the the day. They were cute. I've sent your post to my daughter, I"m sure she will enjoy it.

  4. I remember the monkees--it seems so long ago now, doesn't it I sometimes have to be careful of flavored coffees as they sometimes have gluten! ugh! Looks good.

  8. Like you, I think so many of us were touched by the Monkees in our youth. They were lots of fun. It really was such a surprise to hear that Davy had died. Sixty-six is much too young to die. Very sad news but thankful they contributed lots of good memories to our younger days.

  9. Good morning Ricki Jill, Your story is all of the above and very sweet! I love this song by the Monkees too. I think the FM (I love the place) cookies and coffee is taking you down memory lane. I know hearing the song Daydream Believer so much after the death of Davy Jones sure took me down memory lane………Lovely tribute to the singer and song.
