Gettin' Twiggy With It

Thursday, November 17, 2011

Recently I watched an episode of HGTV's Color Splash Miami that blew me away.  A Twilight mom wanted to redecorate her living room and dining room using the Cullen house from the Twilight saga as her inspiration.  David Bromstad's interpretation of Twilight in the room was very interesting.  I liked most of the elements, especially the shiny mushrooms and textures in the throw pillows, rugs, and ottomans.  The crew installed hundreds of pieces of logs on the wall, and David painted a green apple similar to the red one on the cover of Twilight. The homeowner wanted green as an accent color to remind her of the moss, trees, and ferns that grow in the forests of Washington state.

Did any of you see this episode?  What did you think about the rooms?

I started wondering how many folks would really want to live with raw wood in their home.  I did find some pretty inspiring photos.

I love the retro woodland upholstery and drapery fabric in combination with the majolica collection.

I think I prefer branches and stumps in small doses, like in this photo:

Stumps can even work in a contemporary loft.

This home office featured in Country Living Magazine eventually influenced me to put wallpaper in our art studio.

Check it out:  there is a twig shelf in it!

What do you think about these rooms?  Would you like any of these furnishings in your home?

Until next time...

Blessings!

  1. Lots of nature inspiration there Ricki Jill! I do love the twiggy look, especially in the chandelier but not sure I would want it over my dining room table. Hope you are having a GREAT week!

  2. I love a little dash of nature in decorating, but some of the first ones were a little over the top for me. My favorite was the home office feature from Country Living Magizine, I love the twig shelf. Hope you have a better day today!!

  3. Very interesting - all I could think of is my past cat Ruffles and how she would have all loved all the 'natural' scratching posts. Now with westies, they wouldn't care so it would be something to consider when and if we build another home.

    All the best - Katie

  4. beautiful photos, in our house on the lake we had many twig and tree themed things, cupboard door handles, shelves, I had a twig and driftwod table, and I had a bed in my guest room made of logs.I made a frame out of twigs and like this very very much,

  5. hmmm. i think the cullen's home would be a little too contemporary, so i don't know if i'd go that route, but i do really love raw wood. that first pic of the dining room and that chandelier and those chairs??? ok, i'll take it!!

  6. I like the twiggy look in moderation. I don't want my home to look like a mountain lodge (because I don't live in the mountains), but I do like elements of raw wood.

  7. I love trees.

I've dreamed about them since I was a little girl so I would love all of those looks.

  9. I've never thought of myself as much of a "twiggy" person, but those photos could sway me!

  10. Hi Ricki! I always love the effect of wood. For me, wood brings a relaxing, laid back and a cozy mode. Although if I were to have my own house, I would not totally wanted it to be made of wood. Having interior finishings with wood would be a great option.

  11. Well, I sort of have it everywhere in our home, like it or not, wood house, wood ceilings, wood floors so I go easy on the twigs....but I do love naturally bleached driftwood!

  13. Hi Ricki Jill! First of all ~ I love your blog post title! I like the last pic of the twig shelf. Rustic cabin style is really appealing to me now as we search through plans for the cabin we plan on building this spring! Have a great weekend!!

  15. I've never been a 'twig' person, but that Art Board is kind of cool. I think I would like it if I had a mountain home. The twiggy look is really in right now.

  16. Hey Rick Jill! I didn't see this episode, but I'm not finding all of these wood things too appealing. Oh but I do love me some grapevine for decorating. And I do like it quite twiggy, lol. Just wait til you see my mantle! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

  17. Wow, talk about an organic feel :-)These rooms are pretty amazing...Oh and that twig chandelier is something else, isn't it? I think I like it...reminds me of a cute bird's nest. I do like the twig look in small doses. I have decorate with them in the past. I think it adds a little bit of nature inside. Don't you think?

    Hugs and Kisses,

  19. These are beautiful rooms, Ricki Jill, but a bit too twiggy for my taste. I like a few natural elements mixed in with my "Comfy Eclectic" style. I do love that twiggy chandy -- it's gorgeous!

  20. They all look wonderful esp. the bedrooms. But I am with you I am really not crazy with all the limbs over a dining room table. I tried that look one Christmas, tons of vines and deer antlers. It look incredible but I always worried when we were eating under it. Outside yes. Thanks for sharing, Kathy

  21. Love the wood. A little can go a long way when used the right way. Nice thing about raw wood is that it changes over time and when you get tired of it you can paint it.
