I have been helping my daughter design her dorm room for months. We have been working on projects, ordering one of a kind vintage items from Etsy, and searching the internet for sales. Shanley wanted some small shelves to place on her chest of drawers to hold small treasures and picture frames. We were inspired by Selina Lake's Romantic Style. I love this book, and I also own a copy of her Bazaar Style, too. If you have not checked out either of these books, please do yourself a favor and read them. You can read my review of Romantic Style and the other three Best Home Decorating Books of 2010 here. This is the image that sparked our imagination:
This is our project:
We wanted to use black and white paper to make Shanley's colorful treasures pop.
Would you like a patchwork wallpaper wall in your home? I admit that I am tempted.

Until next time...

I think it looks stunning!! What a fabulous idea!!
ReplyDeleteI am usually not much of a wall paper person, but that patchwork looks awesome. I might be tempted to do that!!

The bedroom in the style book is very pretty, such a great idea and very inspiring.
ReplyDeleteThe shelves are delightful and are sure to make Shanley's dorm room feel special.
This came out great. You guys are so crafty. Does she have to leave soon?
ReplyDeleteOmigosh I love it Ricki-Jill! And guess what? I just saw that same shelf on Ebay and almost bid on it! I hope it's still there. I love your daughter's name too - so sweet and pretty, just like her momma!

Gorgeous! It looks nothing like what I had in my dorm room.
ReplyDeleteLove it! I don't think a patchwork wall would work well in our house, but I love, love, love the idea of transforming a bookcase that way. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThat is magical! I love it. You will always treasure the time you had making it, too.. A double pleasure!
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome. Can't wait to see her treasures!
ReplyDeleteAh, the difference between daughters and sons. I shudder to remember my son's dorm....
ReplyDeleteVery cute idea.

ReplyDeletefirst brought this idea to my attention last fall.
She has a victorian home and wanted to do some modern wallpaper but still feel the victorian style.
So finding great scrapbooking paper she wanted to go with a patchwork design for the stairwell.
I think it is such a great idea!
Love it!

That's so creative. I love the vase. When I was young, my mom covered my whole room in fabric wallpaper, and I'll never forget all the hard work that went into it.

The little shelf looks great, Ricki Jill! And I love your color choices. I've always liked wallpaper though it's sure a pain to change out. I'm going to put some vintage paper I found at the thrift store in my half bath when I get to that renovation. I think a whole patchwork wall would be awesome!

OOO, this is just absolutely STUNNING...and I want a Patchwork wall. That is just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI am walking from room to room to see where I might do this...and the black and white..PRICELESS.
Love it all..

My second comment... I would love to do something like this on a wall somewhere. Thanks so much for visiting my blog and saying such sweet things. I so love comments, and you are a dear to always talk to me!
ReplyDeleteWow! How pretty! I could have never guessed that what I am looking at is a dorm. It looks very elegant...Christine
ReplyDeleteI agree with using black and white as the base color. It will highlight the contents of the shelf.
ReplyDeleteI would like to experiment on patchwork too but I am afraid that mine would not look good. I might end up building a collage instead. Hahaha! But with you and Shanley, I think you can design great. What a great mother and daughter bonding!
Well... I have to admit, while I am tempted, I'm also chicken. Your little shelf it the perfect start! :) It is darling! :)
