Snail Mail Is Fun!

Wednesday, September 15, 2021

Happy Wednesday, My Lovelies!  Wow, I can't believe how quickly this week is passing by, but I've accomplished several things that really aren't "blog worthy" but necessary, like completely cleaning and disinfecting our trashcan ;P

I've received some lovely things via snail mail lately, and I do think they're blog worthy.

This is Shanley Belle's birthday present from one of my favorite Etsy Stores, Sleightholm Folk Art.  I really do love Heather Sleightholm's style, and she has some lovely autumn art and other items in her shop currently.  She wrapped Shanley Belle's present so prettily, and she even included a beautiful bookmark, perfect for a bookworm like Shanley.  Shanley Belle's birthday isn't until Mid-October, but I will post a photo of the art once she's opened it.

Lately, I've been a crazy spendthrift with books: I bought a few in Michigan, at our local Indie bookshop, and from Victoria Magazine.  These beauties were part of a sale not too long ago, and they were only $5.00 each.  {So I don't feel as badly as I should.}  Our daughter Shelley and I are hosting a Bridal Tea for one of her best friends, and these books are inspiring us.  We are truly looking forward to it!

Sweet Kris from Junk Chic Cottage sent me this beautiful devotional book written by artist Anne Neilson.  I love Anne's art: she uses a palette knife to give it interest, depth, and texture.  I can't wait to start this devotion (I literally have two days left on the one I'm currently reading): the timing couldn't be more perfect.

The book was wrapped, and the wrapping secured with the Psalm 91 sticker, above.  Kris is a Happy Warrior, and we've talked about this Psalm several times in the past several months.

Psalm 91

1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
    will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
    my God, in whom I trust.”

3 Surely he will save you
    from the fowler’s snare
    and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his feathers,
    and under his wings you will find refuge;
    his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5 You will not fear the terror of night,
    nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
    nor the plague that destroys at midday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side,
    ten thousand at your right hand,
    but it will not come near you.
8 You will only observe with your eyes
    and see the punishment of the wicked.

9 If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,”
    and you make the Most High your dwelling,
10 no harm will overtake you,
    no disaster will come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you
    to guard you in all your ways;
12 they will lift you up in their hands,
    so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the cobra;
    you will trample the great lion and the serpent.

14 “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him;
    I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call on me, and I will answer him;
    I will be with him in trouble,
    I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him
    and show him my salvation.”

Until next time...

Ricki Jill

  1. I received Anne Neilson's book as a birthday gift, and have since ordered them for other friend's birthday gifts. It's a wonderful book!

  2. Such special treasures you have there! My snail mail has only included bills lately - haha. Looking forward to seeing what's in SB's package!

  3. Anne Neilson's work is just fabulous. FABULOUS. I love the palette knife technique. I wonder if I could pull that off with watercolor with ganache... I've fiddled with angels but that texture. Wowza!

  4. Wow, those books for $5 are a great find! Bridal showers are so much fun to plan and host, Tara and I did so many for her friends, good times! When is Shanley's birthday? Tara's is Oct. 15 and I have started collecting things for it also. I usually make her some type of gift basket filled with non edible goodies and then I give her a check 😂 The palette knife angels are beautiful!

  5. Oh sweet friend I am so happy you got the devotional and love it. Anne does the most beautiful art and her devotions are beautiful. I wanted to remind you how important your blog is to so many of us. All of us struggle and some days the devotionals help to soothe our souls and reset our days and nights. Your work by God's hands to your blog are reaching so many in ways that really touch our hearts. Thank you sweet friend. This is only a token of the gratitude I feel. xoxo Kris

  6. Love the gift, wrapped so pretty and it will be fun to see. Lovely the books, fabulous price. Fun to use while planning your tea. I always enjoyed doing those. I have several books on angels and I will have to get Ann Neilson't devotion and art. Love the scripture.

  7. Beautiful! Snail mail is the best. I love everything...and Kris is the sweetest. What a lovely gift. My kids call her the present fairy!!
