I have been collecting Gooseberry Patch recipes and recipe books for over twenty years. The brown sugar spice cookie recipe has been a favorite for a long time. In case you can't read my recipe card, here is the recipe:
Brown Sugar Spice Cookies
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cup softened butter
2 cups packed brown sugar
1 egg
4 cups flour
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
Directions:
Cream butter and brown sugar, add egg. Beat until light and fluffy. Stir flour with spices and soda, add to creamed mixture; mix well. Cover and chill until firm, about 2 hours. On floured surface roll dough to 1/8" thickness. Cut into shapes with cookie cutters. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake in 350°F oven 8-10 minutes or until lightly browned.
Yield 6 dozen cookies.
Luke 2:8-12 New International Version (NIV)
8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
Until next time…
Blessings!
