I wrote in an earlier post about the Southern Trifecta (or holy trinity) of balls at Southern parties:
1. Date Nut Balls
2. Bourbon Balls
3. Sausage Balls
….and I had several requests for bourbon balls, so here's the recipe!
Bourbon Balls
Ingredients:
1 (12-oz.) package vanilla wafers, finely crushed
1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
3/4 cup powdered sugar
2 tablespoons Hershey's Special Dark cocoa
2 1/2 tablespoons light corn syrup
1/2 cup Maker's Mark Bourbon
Powdered sugar for rolling cookies
Preparation:
1. Combine vanilla wafers, pecans, powdered sugar, and cocoa in a large bowl; stir well.
2. Combine corn syrup and bourbon, stirring well. Pour bourbon mixture over wafer mixture; stir until blended. Shape into 1-inch balls; roll in additional powdered sugar. Store in an airtight container up to 2 weeks.
Note: I think pecans are better in this recipe, but this time I used walnuts because I had just enough and I wanted to get rid of them. Most Southerners use pecans!
You can read my post for Southern Date Nut Balls here.
Maybe if I have time, I'll make my special sausage balls. ;P
Until next time…
Blessings!
Ricki Jill
Those bourbon balls look so good. I am writing down the recipe. Thanks Ricki Jill.
ReplyDeleteI love bourbon balls and sausage balls. A platter of either would be gone in no time at my house.
ReplyDeleteYummy!
ReplyDeleteLIQUOR??? IN CANDY???? I am intrigued, even though I'm not a fan of bourbon.
ReplyDeleteLOL! Fruit cake has much more booze than this recipe, traditionally (and several types). Plus rum balls, Kahlua cake, etc. It's a tradition! ;)
DeleteThese sound yummy! My mom use to make rum balls.
ReplyDeleteRJ, Ha, I know that party well! Good recipe and love the snaps. They look delicious.........

OH, YUM!!! Another recipe for me to try! Thanks Ricki Jill! :)
ReplyDeleteThese definitely sound awesome! Do you think they can be made sans powdered sugar? I need to try my hand at them the next time I find vanilla wafers at the market...Thanks! :D
ReplyDeleteI've had these rolled in cocoa before, and I really liked them. I've also had them rolled in cinnamon sugar, and they were my least favorite.
DeleteHi pretty R. J.! Oh, these sound so good and I would love to have some right now!! ;)
ReplyDeleteHope you're doing well and thank you so much for popping in to see me.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
They look wonderful (especially in you Mackenzie- Childs dishes). Sunday is baking day at our house.

ReplyDeleteOk I don't like bourbon so I do not think I would like these

Ohhh, they look so tasty! My Mema used to make these. I'm originally from Georgia, and my Mema was a Southern grandma through and through. Her green beans were to die for. And I don't like green beans! She had the magic. =)
ReplyDeleteWhat? No Schweddy Balls?
ReplyDeleteI LOVE burbon balls, (I'm southern)! Thanks for sharing the recipe, I'm going to give them a try, (with the pecans of course!)
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Patti
These sound good! I have never had one before!
ReplyDeleteThese sound delicious!
ReplyDeleteMy mother always made rum balls. I think I'd like these better! And sausage balls have always been a family tradition during opening presents to last until we can fix the real breakfast.
