Welcome to The Sketchy Reader!  If you're looking for something inspiring to read, you've come to the right place.  If you're looking for a great beach read, a selection for your book club, or a cozy mystery to enjoy snuggled by a fire, your search is over.  I've done the work for you!

But wait!  There's more!  Not only do I share literature... I also share and review nonfiction books including home decor, cooking, and health and beauty.  Then I share how books, magazines, even other blogs have inspired me through sharing creative projects.

Launched in 2010, my blog is a community for people who appreciate art, literature, and creative living.  My Lovelies are life-learners who enjoy sharing their creative pursuits and are generous in their encouragement of mine!

If you love reading good books, celebrating the everyday, and a community of supportive readers, then you should enjoy my blog.

You will find reviews sponsored by TLC Book Tours, so you'll be in the know about newly published, soon to be bestsellers.

I write a weekly Literary Friday post that's usually the best book of the week or even a favorite book I've recently enjoyed again.

In my What I'm Reading Wednesday posts, I share fun reads from magazines, blogs, or other sources.  Sometimes these posts are about home decor or something else that has piqued my interest.

My readers are busy, and they consider The Sketchy Reader a resource for reading and creativity.

Let me tell you a little about myself:

I'm an artist, the "sketchy" part of The Sketchy Reader.  One of my favorite activities is writing in my reading journal and daily painting in oils.

I've been married for 31 years, and we're blessed with two lovely daughters: one is a scientist at LSU and the other is an undergraduate in college.

We are all minions to our Westies Finlay and Mustang Sally.

Birmingham, Alabama is home.

Please follow me on Bloglovin' and I'll follow you back!

  1. Can authors send in books for review? I have a multicultural woman's fiction, PAINTING KUWAIT VIOLET. If not, nO problem, if yes, let me know what's the process?

    1. I read your blurb for Painting Kuwait Violet, and I'm definitely interested. I think I would enjoy reading it and writing a review! I also post reviews on Goodreads, and I post a partial review on Instagram. Please email me at: rickijill@gmail.com
and we can discuss details. Normally I only accept books via TLC Book Tours, but I like the sound of your book!
