I purchased these at my indie bookstore. I rarely purchase from the big box stores.
Happy Saturday, y'all! Guess where I'll be today???
That's right! I will visit our local Indie Bookstore.
What exactly is Independent Bookstore Day? According to their website:
"Independent Bookstore Day is a one-day national party that takes place at indie bookstores across the country on the last Saturday in April. Every store is unique and independent, and every party is different. But in addition to authors, live music, cupcakes, scavenger hunts, kids events, art tables, readings, barbecues, contests, and other fun stuff, there are exclusive books and literary items that you can only get on that day. Not before. Not after. Not online."
This year's Indie Bookstore Day was postponed due to the pandemic because it's usually the last Saturday in April, not the last Saturday in August.
My local Indie Bookstore is Little Professor in Homewood, Alabama.
I received an email yesterday, and I'm happy to announce that Little Professor will offer fresh coffee and espresso drinks today. I will get mine free because I'm a member! :D
Independent bookstores are so important to our communities. The booksellers learn about our tastes, and can make appropriate book recommendations. Many indie bookstores serve their communities as meeting places and event spaces. We should always buy local when we can (environmental impact, tax dollars, and almost sixty cents per on dollar spent stays within the community), and book lovers across the country must feel the same way because there are more indie bookstores this year than last year. Great news!
I like that Little Professor has curbside service if I'm in a rush and know exactly what I want. But tomorrow, I will go in, enjoy coffee, and find the perfect book. I guess I'll be adding one more book to my Autumn Reading List!
The independent bookstore near by has not opened up for customers to go shopping in their building. Curbside pickup and also delivery, is available. It is a shame as I know when I go to a book store I tend to purchase more when I just look around. A good many of the other retail locations in the area are open--mask mandate-- but not the book store.
ReplyDeleteYou're right about supporting indie bookstores. The one up north is very stringent on Covid protocol, which I greatly appreciate.
ReplyDeleteWe have some great bookstores in Northern Wisconsin. My boys love when we take a trip to visit them. Both of my boys are readers. We all love books.
ReplyDeleteSounds like fun, I hope you found your books!
