Help Me Choose My Autumn Kitchen Decor

Thursday, September 6, 2018

Today is National Read a Book Day. What are you currently reading?  Need a suggestion?  I highly recommend Rise & Shine, Benedict Stone.

Hello, My Lovelies!

I need your help.  I'm already sick of Halloween decor (not my favorite) because I've seen it everywhere since Independence Day.  It saddens me that Halloween has become our national holiday...but I'm sure that maybe a week before I'll put out some Jack-o-lanterns.

I'm almost tired of pumpkins with the exception of heirloom ones.  I like the soft colors, especially the whites and pale greens.

So....how do I need your help?  Please help me decide on how to decorate our kitchen for early fall.  There are three choices, and you can share your favorite in the comments section.

#1:  Deeper Pinks and Purples

I love soft pinks.  But for autumn I thought it would be fun to deepen the pinks and add a little purple:

Roses in deeper shades of pink

Mercury glass vase by MacKenzie-Childs

Plum table runner by Terrain

Dusty rose napkins by Shabby Chic

#2:  Pretty Neutral

Neutral might be a good idea to enjoy in our kitchen before I bring in the candy corn and other orange things.

Mackenzie-Childs parchment check vase

Same table runner from Terrain but in golden color

Creamy roses

Shabby Chic lacy inset napkin

#3:  Brighter Pinks and Blues

You might not like this color scheme because it appears a little summery, but the table runner does have deep reds and orange on top.  Plus this one has a subtle book theme I love for back to school.

I love the real wood timberline vase and votive set from Olive and Coco.
I also like the use of books as a centerpiece, and the flowers are pretty, too.

I love the bright blue on this Anthro runner.

This adorable kitchen towel also from Anthropologie coordinates well with the runner, and I love the cozy reading corner depicted on it.

Which one is your favorite?  I need your input!

Until next time...

Blessings!
Ricki Jill

  1. I'm with you...I can't decide but I know my decor will not be orange. I don't hate the orange..I just love the pale colors these days. :)

  2. Well, if you're looking for FALL, I'd go with the deep pinks and purples but I'd also add a little copper or rust to "fall it up" a bit. That could be with rust mums, deep orangey rust with the pink or purple or copper accessories. Actually, I think if you add that orangey rust (not tons, just some) to any of the three it would bring them into fall. The other two seem a little summery for fall without an anchor color, at least to me.

I'm reading Anna Quindlen's "Lots of Candles, Plenty of Cake" which I HIGHLY recommend (and for reasons I can't understand, found for $1 at Dollar Tree!)

  3. My vote is for purple! Jewel tones indicate fall to me.

  4. RJ, use the soft colors of pumpkins, with your blues. The Parchment vase will be lovely with some russet colorts mixed in. I rarely buy an orange pumpkin since there are so many choices available now. The soft peachy colors, the blue / gray ones, and of course the whites are what I tend to use. Blue and orange together are a favorite fall combo for me.

  5. I love one and two RJ. The deeper pinks and especially really dark purple. I also love neutrals because you can change it up with a burst of color as you feel like. My kitchen is all white and I love how I can easily change it up which I don’t do much of anyway. A few years ago I used the heirloom pumpkins in a pale pink and the white baby boos. I think that’s what I will do again this year, early fall until Thanksgiving. I know anything you do will be lovely......Have a great weekend.

  6. I can't decide. They are all pretty. I look forward to what you decide.
I have missed you but understand how fast the summer went and you had so much going on.
Came by your blog the other night but didn't get a comment written. Can't even remember what distracted me. Now I have my grandkids here for three days.
I read two books at the beach in August and loved them both. A Gift from Brittany by Marjorie Price and Women in Sunlight by Frances Mayes were the two books I read. When I'm at the beach is usually the only time I read a real book because it seems I never finish reading and commenting on blogs and instagram.
We did listen to Guernsey Potato Peel Pie Literary Society and loved it riding in the car on the long drive to Texas. We had watched the movie before listening to the book which was different from the book but very good too. I'm sure you have read the book. If you haven't it is very good.
You probably put the Gift from Brittany on my list. I wrote it down but didn't remember where I read the recommendation.
I do have an old book, A Year in the World by Frances Mayes on my bedside table that I started. I've had sciatica so sitting is hard.
    Have a good week.

  8. I've seen several photos of pinks and purples used in fall decor, and I love that it is so different and unexpected. I think these colors would go nicely in your home, and you can always throw in a soft pink and purple pumpkin or two...I painted some white ones pink last year and loved them!

  11. All three choices are beautiful. I of course love the neutrals but I have to say in this case I am loving the pinks and purples for your kitchen. Yeah can you believe Miss White/Neutral here is picking pinks and purples lol! Which ever way you go it will be so pretty.
    Hugs,
    Kris

  12. For years I hated orange, but lately, I have re-thunk it. (As you probably noticed.) My favorite transition to
Fall -- which I do not do until October 1!!! ---is copper for the metal, purples, deeper reds, and some gold. I do think that the injection of some deeper pinks would be great, as well as some rose-gold. I don't get too theme-y preferring to just change out accessories and pillows, and CHAIRS!

  13. I just finished reading Left Early, Took my Dog. It was kind of weird and an odd follow up to Mr Penumbra. Right now on my nightstand waiting is Sourdough (such pressure with library book).
I vote natural in the event you want to ease Halloween in
