Advent Day Nine 2016

Friday, December 9, 2016

Happy Happy Friday, My Lovelies!  Our Number One daughter is finished with most of her work for the semester, and our Number Two daughter will be home for Christmas Break this afternoon.  YAY!  I can't wait!

Today's cookie is the Russian Tea Cookie.  The funny thing is it reminds me of the Danish Wedding Cookie.  When I was a little girl, Danish Wedding Cookies were my very favorite treat at holiday parties. I'm sure it's probably an American invention...named either Danish Wedding Cookie or Russian Tea Cookie to make the simple cookie seem more exotic.

It reminds me of the Russian Tea I enjoyed growing-up in the seventies.  Russian Tea us made with Tang.  I doubt that the Russians invented Tang.

You may see my recipe for Hot Spiced Russian Tea HERE.

Speaking of Russia, it has come to my attention that I have five times more Russian readers than American ones.  I just don't understand why.  Would one of my Russian readers please leave a comment and explain why y'all like reading my blog?  Just curious.  I appreciate all my readers worldwide.  I also have many readers in Belarus and Germany.  :D

Now on to the cookie....

I liked this cookie, but my family didn't like the walnuts in it.  They all asked why I didn't use pecans or macadamia nuts.  I had black walnuts in the pantry, and I thought it would be a great idea to use them but apparently not.

These cookies get rolled in powdered sugar twice: once while they're warm, and again once they've cooled.

Everything's better rolled in powdered sugar, don't you think?

2 Peter 3:11-18

11 Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives 12 as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming.  That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. 13 But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.

14 So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him. 15 Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. 16 He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.

17 Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position. 18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.

Until next time...

Blessings!
Ricki Jill

  1. MMMMMMM!!!!! My family calls those Russian Tea Balls and makes them with walnuts...I have also had them as Mexican wedding cakes (and one other name I can't think of right now)-don't really mind what they are called as they are yummy no matter what!
