How many of you received a notification from blogger about EU notification concerning the use of cookies on your blog?
Here's what my message said. I clicked on a little megaphone icon on my Home page:
"European Union laws require you to give European Union visitors information about cookies used on your blog. In many cases, these laws also require you to obtain consent.
As a courtesy, we have added a notice on your blog to explain Google's use of certain Blogger and Google cookies, including use of Google Analytics and AdSense cookies.
You are responsible for confirming this notice actually works for your blog, and that it displays. If you employ other cookies, for example by adding third party features, this notice may not work for you."
UGH! DOUBLE UGH! I checked my blog (I changed my .com to .fr for France) and there's this stupid ugly bar on the top of my blog, but there's no notification in it. And I don't want to mess up the pretty blog template trying to figure it out.
Do any of you have this same issue? Gah, cookies are, like, EVERYWHERE! What happened to implied consent? WTH????
Have any of you fixed this issue on your blog yet? I'm not happy. Not a happy blogger. I'll have to take out my Blogger voodoo doll again.
Blogger said they did this as a "courtesy" but we are not European. We're American. And I NEVER want to become European. My ancestor left Switzerland in the early 18th century to come to America. He fought for INDEPENDENCE from another European country. But I digress...Crap like this makes me even more isolationist.
To my few European readers, truly I love you. But not your stupid overreaching government!
Until next time…
Blessings!

I checked my blog using .fr instead of .com, and I have the ugly grey bar, but it has this message: "This site uses cookies from Google to deliver its services, to personalize ads and to analyze traffic. Information about your use of this site is shared with Google. By using this site, you agree to its use of cookies." and then you could click that you understood (I didn't click on it, but I assume that the message would go away if it did). But I don't remember getting any message from Blogger. Weird!
ReplyDeleteMine has the ugly gray bar, but no message. That's why I'm concerned.
DeleteI haven't seen any of this, but I'll keep my eye out!
ReplyDeleteHmmmm...nothing like that over here!
ReplyDeleteI checked mine, clicked on the information links and got a computer virus. Had to take my computer in to have it cleaned up. Curious whether this is for real or a scam.
ReplyDeleteI have that message right now on my Overview page. I have been ignoring it because I'm always so afraid of what will happen when I click on something I don't understand. Watching to see what others have to say.
ReplyDeleteI think it sounds like a spam email. Seems like I got one of those notices a long time ago and I ignored it and put it into spam. Seems to me it's up to each individual using a computer to choose whether they accept cookies or not.
ReplyDeleteI got it, deleted it. I had no idea what to do with it, so I just got rid of it. Liz may be right -- maybe it is spam?
ReplyDeleteI believe like a couple of others this sounds like a spam. I am wary of so many emails that come in anymore. I rarely even open them if they aren't from a company I'm familiar with or a person I know. I hope you can get your issue resolved. How frustrating.
ReplyDeletexo,
Karen
I haven't seen anything like this, nor do I see an ugly grey bar on your blog. :/
ReplyDeleteAlso, the internet is pan-nation, but you know, we can never get every country in the world to agree to one policy with something that's shared. *shrug*
Who cares if your blog isn't as pretty for folks visiting from France or Germany or the UK? They're probably experiencing issues all over (if this cookie thing is what's causing it, and not a new Blogger setting). It's still pretty in original American. :)
Aha! I just checked and I have that notice, too. I 'x'ed out the notice, and nothing appears to have changed on my blog. If I use the ".co.uk" extension, I get a grey bar notice when I can close by clicking "Got It". I believe this is a Blogger setting that's just a heads up for EU visitors. Shouldn't change anything about your blog.
ReplyDeleteI have not seen that on my blog. I hope I don't!!! I hate when this stuff happens. It is always something!
ReplyDeleteHope you can get it taken care of.
Kris
I had the message too and like most things in my life, I ignored it.
ReplyDeleteSo far, so good.
HA! I'm with you. If I don't "get it", I just ignore it.
DeleteThe message is on my overview page on Blogger. Here's a couple of links: Cookie Notification
ReplyDeleteCookies
There's a way to show the saying, but not in your face. Silktide.com has a free banner. You can choose top, bottom, or slide out in black or white. It's free. I can get rid of that grey banner if you like. Only people adding the .fr or will see it.
DeleteDon't you worry! This is just a message to tell us that the site uses cookies and we are supposed to be aware of it. For some reason, on your blog the message isn't complete, I guess that's because you have your pages listed above your blog title. I'm pretty sure after a few weeks, Blogger will find a more discreet way to tell us about the cookies. I bet they were in a hurry after it became mandatory, everybody was on summer holiday and a young engineer came up with the big grey thing idea and everybody was like "yeah, great idea for now, let's go to the beach!"
ReplyDeleteI have it too. So far I am ignoring it.
ReplyDeleteI did get it too RJ. I didn't have time to investigate and I never do something I don't understand ( didn't like the look or reason), so I ignored it. When I did have time to investigate it was gone! I hope it doesn't come back, I think it's ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteMine shows up on my dashboard, not my blog page. I typed in my blog for France, and the message show across the top of the blog on that site. I don't think it's a scam because it is on the dashboard which is password protected.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing. I have not seen it, but will keep a look out.
ReplyDeleteCarla
I don't see the message because I'm using the .ca ending, but have seen it on many other sites. I don't use my blogger account anymore, just as redirect, but did go and look and sure enough if I changed the ending to .co.uk or other European one I see the message. I've asked my gurus (family business) to find out about it for me. If I find out anything useful I'll let you know. So far it is only showing up on sites with blogspot in the url
