Welcome to Christmas Cookie Week 2013! This year, 8 bloggers have come together to share a daily recipe for yummy and delicious cookies that we hope will inspire you during this season of Christmas baking! Everyone's from different parts of Canada, except for me....I'm an Alabama Girl... but we all share a joy of baking which makes for love…fresh from the oven!

It's the last day for Christmas Cookie Week. *sadface*
Today's featured cookie is the ever popular date ball. During Christmas, most Southern parties have the holy trinity of balls: date, sausage, and bourbon. We Southerners love our balls! :/
Southern Date Balls
Ingredients:
1 cup sugar
1 stick butter
1 egg, well beaten
1 cup pitted dates, finely chopped
1 cup nuts, finely chopped (I like walnuts)
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups Rice Krispies
Confectioner’s sugar
Directions:
Melt butter and sugar in a medium sauce pan over low heat.
Add egg and stir until thoroughly incorporated.
Add dates, nuts and vanilla and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer 10 minutes.
Remove from heat and stir in Rice Krispies.
When cool enough to handle, roll into bite-sized balls and roll in confectioner’s sugar.
Easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy!
Perfect Pairings:
I hope you've enjoyed drooling over the cookies shared this week. What are you baking for Christmas?
Until next time…
Blessings!

I have enjoyed your cookie week. I loved how you have paired your little sweets up too. Very smart of you. I have never had a date ball. They sound and look good. Thanks for all the recipes and thank you to you and Grace for sharing your party.
ReplyDeleteI love dates so these sound delicious! I have been drooling over cookies and eating lots of cookies this week! Have a wonderful weekend!

Thanks for this cookie week! It's been great... My hips think so too!!
ReplyDelete"The Holy Trinity of balls" made me spit out my coffee I was laughing so hard! :D
ReplyDeleteI've never been big on dates, but I shall have to try these! And Bourbon Balls? What are those? We have bourbon at the house, but we don't drink it, so I'd love an excuse to use it up and free up the shelf space. :)
Mmm I have never had a date ball, and I love dates! This recipe looks simple & delicious!
ReplyDeleteI've never actually used dates in my desserts....but I will now because these look lovely
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I haven't even thought about beginning my Christmas baking yet. I'm still recovering from Thanksgiving! Your date balls look scrumptious.
ReplyDeleteRJ, what a great idea. I'll catch up soon with all the offerings. I love to bake cookies!
ReplyDeleteHoly trinity of balls - you are too funny. Those do look delicious and the colour and shape always look great on a cookie tray.
ReplyDeleteI had a date ball for the first time the other day in a coffee shop and I have craved one ever since. This is so perfect...thanks. Isn't that funny that they are part of the southern traditions. Love it.
