Musical Monday: I Need Somebody to Love and Congratulations to Anne Hathaway!

Monday, February 25, 2013

Congratulations on your Oscar win, Anne Hathaway!

I first recognized Anne's talent while watching Ella Enchanted at the theater with my daughters.  There's a scene in the movie where Ella, cursed to obey all commands, is ordered to sing and dance for a group of giants.  Ella sings Queen's "I Need Somebody to Love."  This isn't an easy song to perform by any means, and Anne Hathaway nailed it.

Did you watch the Oscars?  I didn't because I got so tired of ABC's non-stop promotions....every show had Oscar-themed content for over a week.  Thank goodness that's over!  It was overkill in my opinion, and it truly turned me off!  However, I'm happy for Anne and the other winners. Congratulations!

  1. The one down side of living on the other side of the world is that we can't watch the Oscars live .. well not unless you want to give up sleep.

So I'll catch the highlights tonight.

  2. No, I don't watch the oscars. The reason I don't is the people who put the program together suck you in with the best supporting ? awards in the first 10 minutes and then the rest of the show is awards I don't care about. Best foreign film. Best spoken word film. Best documentary turned into a movie. You know I made those categories up, but I'm sure you know what I mean. THEN, at 11:49 they FINALLY show you best actor/ess and film! I don't care for their clever ruse thank you very much!!
And, quite honestly, I don't care what clothes people with millions of dollars wear!
Do I sound a bit grumpy over this???

  3. Hi RJ, I tried to watch a little of the Oscars! The only movie we've seen is Argo. Can't wait to see Lincoln but the others are not on my to watch list. I thought the program was borrrrrrring! I do enjoy the red carpet and seeing the dresses. I thought Jennifer Anniston was lovely in her red gown. I love little Amy Adams and though she looked fabulous. I don't even know most of the hollywood galms these day! Tells you a lot about me.........I did enjoy the songs by Adele and Nora Jones.
Happy your back, enjoy your week

  4. Didn't she remind you of Audrey Hepburn in that pink dress and so classic look accepting her award?

  5. Ella Enchanted was such a cute movie! Her rendition of Queen's "Somebody to Love" used to be my go-to song when I was having hard times in the dating section of life. :)

I never watch award shows- it seems so drawn out and fake, to me. Also, I don't have TV. But I do look forward to seeing the pretty gowns all over internet gossip sites the next day.

  6. I don't think I will ever get I Dreamed a Dream out of my head after watching her sing it. I hadn't seen Ella Enchanted so thank you for posting her other song! No I didn't watch the Oscars either. I just like to look at the dresses on Yahoo the day after.

  7. She did a great job with this song! I did not watch it, however I would have loved to see the actress who tripped only to know there are other clutz in this world like I am. he he he

I hope you had a great weekend.

  8. I absolutely adore Anne Hathaway. I think she is just so "real". She looked absolutely fantastic, although I have heard some entertainment news this morning claiming she was not one of the best dressed. I thought she looked amazing.
I am very curious to see Argo now. I was avoiding it, after all the controversy surrounding the film, but I think I will have to rent it on DVD.
In general I am not a big Oscars fan.

  9. These bloggy breaks are tough -- I'm still trying to catch up! I didn't know you were doing a kitchen remodel, but how exciting! Can't wait to see it, Ricki Jill!

We did watch the Oscars and thoroughly enjoyed it. We thought it was well done and very entertaining. It was so funny, they would start playing the music from "Jaws" if someone was getting too long-winded. I was thrilled that Anne Hathaway won, and also Jennifer Lawrence -- both such talented young women. This was the first year that we had actually seen several of the movies, and now we know which ones will be going on our Red Box rental list....lol!

Have a great week, and good luck with that sink!

  11. I noticed the Oscar promos in the shows and it was too much. I hope they don't do that again.

I can't wait to see many of the movies that were featured last night. When they are on video!

    Are you watching The Bachelor?

  12. I loved that scene from Ella too. I'm glad Anne won. I was scared she might have been over-hyped

  13. We ended up not watching the Oscars either. I'd only seen one movie, Lincoln, so decided I was already out of the loop on this year. '-)
