October Vignette: Think Pink!

Tuesday, October 10, 2023

Hello, My Lovelies!
Welcome to the Halloween Tablescape Blog Hop!
If you linked over from Patti's blog Pandora's Box, thanks so much for visiting!

Rita @ the Panoply Blog is our hostess.
Thank-you so much, Rita, for your hard work in organizing these blog hops.  I always enjoy them!

As y'all are aware, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  Breast cancer is a scary diagnosis, but the sooner it's caught, the sooner treatment can begin, AND the higher the rate for survival is.  If you have not had your annual mammogram this year, please call today for an appointment!

As many of you know, my sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha, works tirelessly to educate women about breast cancer.  I am so fortunate that our philanthropy is breast cancer awareness because the peer pressure of my sisters to continue getting annual mammograms even during covid saved my life.

Official Think Pink Video from Zeta Tau Alpha on Vimeo.

Please consider watching this short video about our philanthropy's events and efforts to educate the public about breast cancer.

I put together a little vignette in honor of our daughters.  I want them to take care of themselves and get physical screenings as well as mammograms annually.   I discuss it with them often!  Of course, the vignette is predominately pink. Let's take a look:

I created the vignette on my MacKenzie-Childs Flower Press Work Table.

I have everything set-up for afternoon tea, and the vignette features my pink MacKenzie-Childs collection.

I was gifted three MacKenzie-Childs Hope plates, one for me and one for each of my daughters.  Ten percent of sales benefit breast cancer research.

I'm also featuring pieces from the Katey McFarlan Collection, which includes the spoon rest, bowl, and bud vase.

The pink and green are the colors of Shanley's sorority, Delta Zeta.
Their philanthropy is speech and hearing, and Shanley is a speech-language pathology research scientist.

I've chosen a couple of plates featuring pink roses and a heart paperweight to hold the cloth napkins in place.

I just had to add the heart fairy lights.  They're the perfect shade of pink!
I like the butterfly on the lid of the teapot as it matches the butterfly on the bud vase.

I chose pink ranunculus and pumpkins, too.

Menu

I wish Shanley Belle were here, but she's here in spirit!
We are also having Harney & Sons Paris Tea with milk and sugar.

  4. Ricki Jill, I'm raising a glass of pink champagne to celebrate you, my friend! You are a survivor!!! I adore every detail of this delightful pink post. I haven't ordered my pink heart plates just yet, but they are in my cart. They pair beautifully with our new pink and green pieces. I need to add a few more of the little bowls too. Enjoy tea with your precious daughters, even if Shanley Belle is only there in spirit!

  12. Ricki Jill I am always up for pink, and I love the message that you are sharing today! I have had my mammogram last month! We have a system here in our province that sends out reminders until you have had it done! We have universal health care, so our health ministry knows if you have it or not. At first I thought it was a bit creepy, but then realized, it is a great reminder! They do it for all health screening tests for woman and men. In any case, back to your lovely display! I do not own any Mackenzie Child pieces yet, but those pink heart shaped plates are calling my name. I can think of so many occasions to use them. The ranunculus are stunning. My favourite! Especially fond of the teapot too :)

  13. Tea parties and pink are the perfect pairing, especially when they're as lovely as this. The reminder is certainly apt, and conveyed in a pink setting with pretty flowers will nudge someone's mother, sister, daughter. The heart plates are very charming! Have a lovely week

  14. Nothing could be scarier than having a cancer diagnosis, and you, RIcki Jill, have been my hero for the past two years, showing us how to kick it to the curb - through Covid, through other family crises (big and small), and through devotion. For that, I thank you. And I so appreciate your pink vignette for all these reasons. My sister was the 1 in 8 of my mother and seven girls in my family, and her diagnosis came at age 70. So we must all keep diligent about our screenings, please, because there is so much more life after 70!
I love your heart plates (how did you get those so quickly??), and the Katy McFarlan pieces. Your entire M-C collection and that work table are incredibly beautiful with all the soft and bright pinks and complementary colors. The lights and candle are signs of hope as well. This entire post makes me very appreciative of what you've gone through and your willingness to share the message. Thank you for bringing what is a scary thing to light and participating in this Halloween blog hop in such a unique way. XO

  15. You are right, Breast cancer is scary. For all those who have been there or know someone who is going through the fight - our prayers are with you. Your pink message is appropriate for October. Happy Halloween! lets hope there are no more scares as big as this one.

  17. Ricki Jill....we definitely need to think pink. As you know, my cancer was not breast cancer but it was Pancreatic Cancer and I still have to have the 3 month check ups consisting of labs/cat scans and occasional PET scans. But that is ok, I go next week for that routine yet again. I know God brought me through my cancer, and my prayers are with you and anyone who has gone through or is going through cancer of any kind. No one knows until they go through it just how horrible a disease it is. My doctors call me a walking miracle as I had a 1 % chance of survival. Having said all that, I love your pink table and tea time. What a wonderful way to share it with your daughters and what a wonderful way to share your message on cancer. Hugs and Blessings my friend. Kari

  18. What a wonderful tribute and I love your pink vignette and tea time. We must all be diligent with screenings, and I know a young lady that just discovered she has breast cancer and luckily she found it early by doing a self exam. The "hope" plates are lovely and such a nice gift for you and your daughters. xo
