What I'm Reading Wednesday: Autumn from the Heart of the Home by Susan Branch

Wednesday, October 11, 2017

Happy Wednesday, My Lovelies!  Today I'm getting inspired by Susan Branch's beautifully illustrated  book, Autumn from the Heart of the Home.  I put together a tablescape in our kitchen based on the lovely colors in the book.

Resources:

Almost everything on the table is from Pier1, and I think almost everything is still available, except:

Vase: Vintage MacKenzie-Childs
Plaid jug:  Vintage Laura Ashley
Tea light votives:  Longaberger
Pewter squirrel and branch salt and pepper:  Gorsuch, Beaver Creek, CO
"Skwash" Velvet Pumpkins:  Leaf 'n Petal, Mountain Brook, AL

Autumn from the Heart of the Home by Susan Branch is filled with beautifully illustrated,  autumn-inspired recipes, activities, and memories.  Mine is the tenth anniversary edition, and it even has a pretty satin ribbon bookmark!  Some of my favorite things about the book are the decorating inspirations, afternoon tea and Halloween entertaining tips, and a recipe I'm dying to try:  cinnamon ice cream.  Tropical Storm Nate left behind lots of warm, humid air.  The cinnamon ice cream would cool us down and also remind us of autumn which will come soon, I hope!

I finally put out our glass pumpkins, and I hope to continue decorating each week for the Nancy Drew Literary Friday posts.  I think Nancy Drew will be our theme for Halloween this year because I'm hoping to decorate in red and blue for the World Series if the Cubbies win the NL Pennant!

What are you reading today?  Have you decorated for Halloween yet?

Until next time...

Happy reading!
Ricki Jill

  5. Yummmmmm! Cinnamon ice cream sounds divinely inspired. This humidity is killing me and my hair.

I will look for this book. I have a very old Christmas one by this author, and still enjoy it every year. There is a Christmas breakfast casserole with crabmeat, etc. that never gets old.

Love your composition of Fall goodies and colors.

  6. what a gorgeous table, brings a very happy autumn vibe. Those little acorn cutouts are adorable too, did you make those Ricki Jill?
Are you not doing Scooby-Doo stuff for Halloween anymore? But how cute to have a Nancy Drew theme though!
Right now I'm reading 'Sleeping Beauties' by my man and his son, Owen King lol.
Hope you have a magical day:)

  10. I love everything about Susan Branch and her books and art. She's definitely an inspiration and no more than here in your gorgeous table. What a happy, delightful spot to sit for lunch, tea, just a snack and a chat with friends! Love every photo. Beautiful.

I just finished "Broken for You"(Stephanie Kallos--outstanding) and am almost through with "As Always, Julia," a collection of letters between Julia Child and her pen pal Avis DeVoto as she (Julia) experience life abroad and working on her "Mastering the Art of French Cooking." I love reading letters and these are great; learning loads about cooking, writing and testing a cookbook, 50s politics and friendship. But sometimes I need a break for something light and quick. (Broken for You isn't totally light, yet there is joy in it.)
