Literary Friday: The Year of Cozy

Friday, March 3, 2017

Happy Literary Friday, My Lovelies!  It's the weekend, and I plan on relaxing with the family! One way we're planning on relaxing is by enjoying our fireplace on the patio while watching Hallmark movies and sipping on decadent hot chocolate from The Year of Cozy.

According to Goodreads:

From the author of the popular blog, A Cozy Kitchen, comes a beautifully photographed one-stop-shop book with all the recipes and projects you’ll need for some cozy inspiration this holiday season—and all year long. You’ll love Adrianna Adarme’s easy-to-follow instructions and will enjoy getting lost in her warm and comforting photographs. Organized by the months of the year and by categories as “Live,” “Do,” and “Make, ” this book offers ideas for activities, recipes, and DIY projects that make the little moments in life just as exciting as the big. Adarme gives us special (but totally doable) things we can do for others and ourselves. From quick recipes to easy crafts, she focuses on simple, inexpensive undertakings that have a big reward: happiness. The Year of Cozy will surely inspire you to march into your kitchen and craft closet to make something you can truly be proud of.

My Review:

I must start my review by stating that Adrianna Adarme's blog is one of the most lovely and delicious blogs.  Period.  Her most recent post (to date), Mini Caramel-Chai Spiced Apple Pies are works of art.  Our oldest daughter wants to try her hand at making them over the weekend.

I knew that when I received my copy of The Year of Cozy I would be encouraged and inspired to try new things, just like her blog.  I do love how the book is organized according to the seasons and months.  Her voice is so authentic, and her "Live" activities are so delightful.  I have my eye on a couple of the "Make" crafts, especially the salt cellar made from air-dry white clay.  When I make one I promise I'll post about it!  One "Do" activity that made me very happy is a recipe for making an Activated Charcoal Brown Sugar Scrub.  I plan to make some for me and my daughters because we love the Dark Angel charcoal scrub from Lush.

Her seasonal recipes are wonderful, too.  Once Easter arrives, I would love to try my hand at making fruit sugars for herbal teas.  I know we would enjoy these immensely during spring!

The photographs are so pretty in this book.  I have literally read and re-read this book several times.  I do think that her style impacted how I redecorated the family room a few weeks ago. My only criticism of the book is I would have enjoyed seeing even more of Adrianna's  adorable Corgi Amelia.  That pup has one adorable personality!

Until next time...

Happy reading!

  1. An outdoor fireplace sounds really good to me! The day is so pretty and sunny but quite nippy.

Congratulations to Shanley for her successful defense of her thesis and getting into the doctoral program. That is a big accomplishment!

  5. Sounds wonderful!! If a book can inspire you to decorate, make good food, and enjoy being at home then it's a winner.

I just realized that I've been missing your posts so I'm off to backtrack a little. :)

  6. It sounds like a great book RJ. I always find neat things in there, and you reminded me that I have a gift card from Christmas. I really like your small floral painting in your family room. It's exquisite. I also like the rug you chose. xoxo Su
