Halloween Treats

Happy Thursday!  I won some prizes and decided to use them for some Halloween treats.  I have a daughter with a birthday coming up in a few days, and I know she'll appreciate them!

The first treat was inspired by All You Magazine:

I won the candy eyes and straws.  I didn't have any candy coating like the ghost candy apples from All You, so I used white chocolate.  My apples are more like ghouls!  :/

Shanley Belle loves anything pumpkin flavored, so she is in pumpkin heaven this time of year.  I won a hand pie press and made her some pumpkin hand pies.

Pumpkin Hand Pies

Ingredients:

1 box refrigerated pie crusts (I used Winn Dixie)
1 can pumpkin pie filling
1 egg
vanilla suger

Procedure:

Take pie crusts out of refrigerator and leave them on the counter for at least twenty minutes.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Cut out circles from crust to place in hand pie press.

Put around two tablespoons on one half of the crust and press the pie press together to crimp the edges.  Carefully remove pie from press and place on a cookie sheet.  If you don't use parchment paper or a Silpat mat you might need to spray it with a nonstick spray.

Lightly beat egg.  Brush egg on top of pies and then sprinkle with vanilla sugar.  Slit tops of pies.

Bake for 20 - 25 minutes until browned.

Aren't they fun!

I'm not digging this arrangement.  It shall be moved tomorrow.  When I saw the odd pumpkin tree branches, I thought they might be fun.

See the jack-o-lantern?  It's about as scary as we get around here!

Until next time...

Blessings!

  2. Your white chocolate ghost apples are adorable and I bet a total yummy treat. You know your sweet little pie press can also be used for savory delights. I've made savory stuffed appetizers with one. I happen to really like your arrangement. I was in Trader Joes and saw Pumpkin tree branches that I so wanted to purchase - but didn't because my older cat will not leave them alone. Have a wonderful day.

I also admired pumpkin branches in Trader Joe's. It's interesting to see what you did with them even if you are going to try something different tomorrow.
Happy birthday to your daughter. xoxo Su

  7. I need to get over to Trader Joe's to buy some pumpkin tree branches. They are so cute.

And, I like your little hand pies. I might pick up some lemon curd when I am at Trader Joe's and make some little lemon hand pies.
