Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes @ Art @ Home for 2014 *and* Musical Monday

Monday, January 6, 2014

I love the 7 Gypsies library drawer.  I want to make one with family photos this year!

Good evening, Lovelies!  I hope y'all are keeping warm…it's so cold here! Shelley started back to school today, and Shanley Belle's semester begins Wednesday.  It's nice to get back into a routine, but I miss my #1 daughter.

I've decided to make a few changes to my blog, and I want to share those changes with you.

1.   I've decided to quit posting My Happy List.  First I want to thank those of you who've participated.  Truly, your support has meant the world to me.   But for whatever reason, there is low participation, and ultimately it makes me sad because I don't think folks are generally happy right now or they'd participate.

2.   Due to time constraints, I will only participate in link parties if they "fit" recent posts.  I will not write a post specifically for a link party.  The only exceptions will be the annual parties hosted by incipient Wings, Frosted Petunias, and A Fanciful Twist.  Please refer to my Link Parties Page.  The only weekly exceptions to this rule will be:

      A.   Musical Monday (almost every week)
      B.   Weekly Round-Up  (often, hopefully 2 - 3 times monthly)
      C.   Friday 56

3.   I will focus a lot on Literary Friday.

4.   I will post about more recipe, home decor, and crafts books than I have done in the past.

5.   I plan to get organized and share tips I learn along the way.

6.   My three favorite things in the world are books, flowers, and photos of my kids.  Expect to see more projects involving all three in 2014.

7.   Organization and purging will give me more free time…free time to paint. I will share my paintings with you here on my blog!

8.   I will be participating in a huge project in November.  I will depend on a few of you to help me out with a few guest posts.  ;P

9.   More SMASH journaling!

10. I am addicted to Pinterest, so I hope to see you there (please follow me on Pinterest!) and share my latest Pinterest obsessions here!

Well... I guess that just about does it!  What do you think?  I really want to know your thoughts!

In the spirit of the changes on my blog, I want to share with you David Bowie and Butterfly Boucher singing "Changes."

"Changes" Lyrics

Oh yeah
Mm
Still dont know what I was looking for
And my time was running wild
A million dead-end streets and
Every time I thought Id got it made
It seemed the taste was not so sweet
So I turned myself to face me
But Ive never caught a glimpse
Of how the others must see the faker
Im much too fast to take that test

Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes
(Turn and face the strange)
Ch-ch-changes
Dont want to be a richer man
Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes
(Turn and face the strange)
Ch-ch-changes
Just gonna have to be a different man
Time may change me
But I cant trace time

I watch the ripples change their size
But never leave the stream
Of warm impermanence
So the days float through my eyes
But stil the days seem the same
And these children that you spit on
As they try to change their worlds
Are immune to your consultations
Theyre quite aware of what theyre going through

Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes
(Turn and face the strange)
Ch-ch-changes
Dont tell them to grow up and out of it
Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes
(Turn and face the strange)
Ch-ch-changes
Wheres your shame
Youve left us up to our necks in it
Time may change me
But you cant trace time

Strange fascination, fascinating me
Ah changes are taking the pace Im going through

Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes
(Turn and face the strange)
Ch-ch-changes
Oh, look out you rock n rollers
Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes
(Turn and face the strange)
Ch-ch-changes
Pretty soon now youre gonna get a little older
Time may change me
But I cant trace time
I said that time may change me
But I cant trace time

Until next time…

Blessings!

  1. I just have to say that being a creature of habit, I couldn't give up random Tuesdays to do the happy list, but truly enjoyed reading yours. I have never seen that gypsy drawer and now want one...you are dangerous lady!!!! I am afraid if I go on pintrest I will never come back!!!!

  2. First - do you already have the 7 Gypsies library drawer? I bought it and have never utilized it. I would love to send it to you if you need it.

Second - I am sorry that My Happy List will be going away, but I fully understand. I rarely linked up because I didn't usually have a blog post that fit the title. I will miss reading your "happy's".

I too am making changes at my house and so right now the house is a total disaster. Steve is on the last coat of sealer on our new farmhouse tabletop. It looks great, but there is newspaper beneath the table, chairs strewn through the house and no room is perfect. My "creative space" is in progress and I hope to finish tonight, but no until we go to cheap Mondays and see Inside Llewyn Davis.

You are one of my favorites so please don't make too many drastic changes to your wonderful blog!

  3. Oh I hate that the Happy List is going away. I think I only participated once because I always forget. Sorry!! Looking forward to more of your paintings and Smash Books. Love the book reviews and suggestions too.

  7. I think it is good to focus our blogs. You change or interests change. Sometimes I try to narrow mine and then I go back and forth as my interests change too. Looking forward to your organization posts.

  12. I will miss your Happy List, Ricki Jill. I only participated when I had a post that might fit in, but always, always loved reading your happy list. I understand the need for change. Good luck with all your new year's goals. I'm eager to follow along with what you posts and definitely anticipating the lovely thought of seeing more of your art. I'd love to add piece of your art to our home. Happy 2014 as your move forward. Stay warm!

  13. I'm sad about the happy list linky going away but I may still post happy lists on my own. I found it to be a nice way to include miscellaneous things that happen in my life. I like how you made goals for your blog...I may think about doing that for my own. So glad you can get a drawer from Carol - that's so cool!!!!

  14. It all looks neat!

Even though I've only participated in the Happy List a few times, I enjoyed your list. I'm generally a happy camper, but I forget.

I have not been able to make a new post for January.

  15. Yay changes! Sounds like positive, good stuff, to me! Honestly, I had issues (of a time-related nature) making posts specifically for linky parties. Lit Fri is the only one that I consistently do, and because it fits with what I'm doing on my own anyway. You said it more eloquently, but that's the choice I made as well, for the same reasons, so I totally understand!

  16. Bowie has sung/collaborated with an amazing assortment of other artists!
Ah yes, that "organization" word. I have been trying since... well for a very long time.
I am in the middle of a huge organizational project now that I hoped would let me get back to blogging. I am working on the life balance part.
I like your idea of writing the posts you want and linking where they fit.

  17. Sometimes change is good, although I, too, enjoyed reading your happy list each week. You have to do what you feel is best for you though. You know I'll be here with you no matter what.

  18. I love that library drawer, too....so creative! And I like the ideas you have. I'm not going to take part in as many parties this year. My friends visit my blog no matter what I post and I rarely get anyone new from a big linky party. I'm glad you're going to keep literary Friday....I get so many ideas for new books to read and I like to take part. I'm reading Snow Child right now...it's different and I like it! Hugs!

  19. I don't participate in the happy list, but I always loved reading yours! Reading whatever makes someone happy makes me happy too.
