Musical Mondays

pssst!  Look^  Cool giveaway!

Good morning, Lovelies!  I want to apologize for my rant on Saturday.  I just need to realize that I can't control what others do, and I can't make sense out of nonsense.

I've also decided to embrace the rain.  At least we aren't burning up like the West, and if I could bottle-up the rain and send it out there, I would.

Now on to better things....

Welcome to Musical Monday!  MM is a weekly party that Miss Angie hosts where you share your *music love*

This week, I'm featuring Darius Rucker's cover of Bob Dylan's song "Wagon Wheel."  Although the song is almost as old as I, Rucker's style has refreshed this song into something new and special.  I love it!  There are Duck Dynasty and Lady Antebellum cameos in the video, too.  Mr. Art @ Home prefers Old Crow Medicine Show's version of the cover, but I think I like Rucker's best. What do you think?

Darius Rucker "Wagon Wheel"

Heading down south to the land of the pines
I'm thumbing my way into North Carolina
Staring up the road and pray to God I see headlights
I made it down the coast in seventeen hours
Picking me a bouquet of dogwood flowers
And I'm a-hopin' for Raleigh, I can see my baby tonight

So rock me momma like a wagon wheel
Rock me momma any way you feel
Hey momma rock me
Rock me momma like the wind and the rain
Rock me momma like a south bound train
Hey momma rock me

Running from the cold up in New England
I was born to be a fiddler in an old time string band
My baby plays a guitar, I pick a banjo now
Oh, north country winters keep a-getting me down
Lost my money playing poker so I had to leave town
But I ain't turning back to living that old life no more

So rock me momma like a wagon wheel
Rock me momma any way you feel
Hey momma rock me
Rock me momma like the wind and the rain
Rock me momma like a south bound train
Hey momma rock me

Walkin' to the south out of Roanoke
I caught a trucker out of Philly had a nice long talk
But he's a-heading west from the Cumberland gap
To Johnson City, Tennessee
I gotta get a move on before the sun
I hear my baby calling my name and I know that she's the only one
And if I die in Raleigh at least I will die free

So rock me momma like a wagon wheel
Rock me momma any way you feel
Hey momma rock me
Oh, rock me momma like the wind and the rain
Rock me momma like a south bound train
Hey, hey momma rock me

Oh, so rock me momma like a wagon wheel
Rock me momma any way you feel (I wanna feel)
Hey, hey momma rock me (momma rock me, momma rock me)
Rock me momma like the wind and the rain
Rock me momma like a south bound train
(I wanna rock like a south bound train)
Hey momma rock me
Rock me

I hope you enjoyed the video!

Until next time...

Blessings!
Ricki Jill

  1. Enbrace the rain and send me a bit. We could use rain here, though it is not too hot. Bob Dylan is my favorite singer songwriter and we saw him live when he performed about 10 years ago, and his performance was great.

  2. My husband absolutely loves that song. He plays it so much that my 4 year old knows all the words and sings along. :)

  3. This is one of my very favorite songs but I am a bluegrass girl and love the Old Crow Medicine Show original version much better. So twangy and like an good ol porch show down south.

  6. Ketch from OCMS actually wrote all of the verses to "Wagon Wheel," Dylan had written the chorus. I prefer the OCMS version because it's the first version of the song I heard and he gets the geography right (you can't be in Roanoke AND "heading west FROM the Cumberland Gap to Johnson City, Tennessee," but you can be in Roanoke and heading west "TO the Cumberland Gap, Johnson City, Tennessee." I live in Roanoke so I get to be picky!

  10. I'm with Mr. Art on this one, but it's still a favorite no matter who sings it. I do love Darius Rucker's video for this, though. Mostly because of the Duck Dynasty cameos. Happy Musical Monday (a few days late) :)
