Musical Monday: Awake My Soul

Monday, January 28, 2013

Last week, Chris Tomlin made history by being only the fourth Christian singer to hit #1 on Billboard's Top 200 chart during his album Burning Lights' debut week.   Although I'm a Christian, I rarely listen to Christian artists.  I love the message, but hate the music, unfortunately, because I like the sound of alternative rock.  This limits me to basically four or so bands:  Flyleaf, Skillet, Relient K, and Creed.

I was discussing my dilemma with Miss Joan, an older lady at church one day, and I was whining about how I didn't understand why there aren't more Christian singers/bands playing the music I like.  She looked at me like I was stupid.  :/   Then she said, "Honey I can tell you why.  It's because THE ENEMY got all the good musicians."

{.....well alrighty then.....}

I listend to Burning Lights, and I liked it overall.  Awake My Soul is my favorite track, and the lyrics are on the video.

What have you been listening to lately?

Until next time...

Blessings!

  1. Brandon Heath, Casting Crowns, Jeremy Camp, Third Day...I love so many of them. Do you ever listen to KLove? It is "positive and encouraging". :) It really is. My husband won't listen to it. He says Jesus music at church only.

    1. Think more alternative, like Hawk Nelson and Switchfoot.

  6. Though this one is not evangelical per se, I find this one to be a very intimate song to the LORD http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iT26Ri1ukH0

  12. You remind me so much of my DH when you say, I like the message not the music. Christian rock I can get into, even inspirational Christian. I'm a rock n' roll girl at heart and listen to secular tunes more than I do anything else, but God's message lives in my life.

    Thank you for the well wishes for DD#2. She going to have an X-Ray today to see how the fluid looks on her lungs. I hope it's going away. Your continued prayers are appreciated.

    Chris Tomlin does a great job at capturing the rock n' roll essence in his music. I don't care for the RAP (it's not offense, but I hate RAP period) would discourage me from buying Awake My Soul, I think.

    I see you participate in a weekly music meme. I'm definitely going to go by & grab that the Musical Mondays button and put it up on my blog for all my friends who like this sort of thing , too, and if you enjoy this kind of blog hops, then you may want to join us on the virtual dance floor on Monday's Music Moves Me. Come take a peak at my musical post entitled, Dancing in the Rain.

    Have a melodious week, my friend!
