Grill, BBQ, and Picnic Party @ Cozy Home Scenes

Shannon @ Cozy Home Scenes is hosting a grill, BBQ, and picnic party!  :D

First of all, I would like to wish Mr. Art @ Home a very Happy Father's Day!  You are the best daddy in the world.  :D  Mr. Art @ Home wants to celebrate Father's Day later in the week, so I will be sharing with you his favorite recipe on Thursday!

It's grilling season, and we love to eat al fresco this time of year.  However, the weather has been unpredictable lately, so we are moving the party inside. NOTE:  I wrote this post earlier in the week before we left town.

Recipe for Quinoa Salad

Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups quinoa
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 1/2 cups water
1 bunch green onions, chopped
3/4 cup chopped celery
1/2 cup raisins
1 pinch cayenne pepper
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 tablespoon distilled white vinegar
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons sesame oil
1/3 cup chopped fresh cilantro
3/4 cup chopped pecans

Directions:

1.   Bring the quinoa, salt, and water to a boil in a saucepan. Reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer until the quinoa is tender, 20 to 25 minutes.

2.   Once done, scrape into a large bowl, and allow to cool for 20 minutes.

3.   Stir in the green onions, celery, raisins, cayenne pepper, vegetable oil, vinegar, lemon juice, and sesame oil.

4.   Allow to stand at room temperature for 1 hour to allow the flavors to blend.

5.   Stir in the cilantro and pecans before serving.

This salad was a hit with the family!

The menu is very retro other than the quinoa salad (I wanted to match the vintage plates, LOL). Are you grilling out this week? I have not been on a picnic in forever.  We need to plan one soon!

Until next time...

  3. I've never seen anything like those dishes, but they are adorable and so perfect for any picnic. Too bad your weather hasn't been too great. It's been very warm and sunny, but the weather report keeps saying storms are coming. Thanks for the quoina recipe. I love quoina but really there is only one salad I make with it, so I like seeing other versions to make it different.

I appreciate everything you've done to promote my party and thank you so much for linking up.

  4. We also love grilling at home too. We particularly love grilled seafoods. Unfortunately, the limited space at home and the very unpredictable weather prevent us to enjoy it outdoors. Most of the time also, we enjoyed our grilled seafoods indoors.

I love your plates and the weaved wooden inspired placemats perfectly match too.

    Have a great week! :)
