My Happy List

1.   I am happy for getting stuff done!  I am slowly going from room to room organizing and donating things we no longer need.  It feels so good!  Sharing makes me happy!

2.   I am slowly reading my way through my TBR pile (to be read).  There are two books I have been anxiously awaiting that will be released within the month:

Howe's The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane is one of my all-time favorite books.  This will be released today, and I cannot wait to buy it!

Cassandra Clare's books consistently make my Best Books of the Year list because she is the best YA author.  Ever.

This is the countdown for City of Lost Souls.  It will be the fifth installment in Clare's wildly popular Mortal Instruments series.

Great books by great authors make me so, so happy!

3.   I am planning which plants to purchase for spring pots.  I always plant the weekend after April 15th because in years past when I have jumped the gun, I have lost many plants to late season frosts.

From HGTV, I like the million bells with the sweet potato vine, copperleaf and fuschia.

I love this pastel combination from Proven Winners.  Called Bermuda Skies, this combination includes: Laguna-Sky Blue Lobelia, Yellow Chiffon Superbells, and Bermuda Beach Superetunias.

I had wonderful luck with succulent containers last summer.  I want to plant a container just like this one from Better Homes & Gardens.  Here is the key to the plants and the number of plants used:

A. Dwarf century plant (Agave desmettiana) -- 1
B. Ice plant (Lampranthus deltoides) -- 3
C. Angelina sedum (Sedum rupestre 'Angelina')-- 3

Planning our garden makes me happy!!!

  4. Hi Ricki Jill, I am so happy for so many reasons. Of course you know all blessings count first. Today I'm happy because I found an outdoor console table for the veranda. Been looking everywhere and they were so expensive. Yea, I walked into a store just for the heck of it yesterday and found one with the look I want and the price was slashed! I felt like I was stealing it. Today I'm waiting for it to be delivered. I love what you listed on your list. I'm working on that too, I've got a big stack of things for goodwill in the garage. More to go…………

    Enjoy your week.

  5. I've almost bought the Mortal Instruments series several times, but always hold off because I wasn't sure if it lived up to the hype...I'm taking it you endorse it! haha! I will have to buy the first book and read it :)

Wonderful reasons to be happy today, Ricki Jill! Keep smiling!

  6. You have inspired me with your lovely post.
I've been waiting for more than two dry days together so that I can begin to spruce up my balcony container garden. Here in Oregon it's been raining almost continually since last October - with a few days off for snow. Not really, but it really has been one of the wettest winters on record. I'm hoping next week will live up to Wonderground's predictions of dry weather. I'd like to get started on some new plantings.

  10. I can't wait to plant, but so glad I didn't jump the gun during the hot weather we have been having. We are supposed to have frost tonight and tomorrow night. Yes, it is still spring. Love your happy list.
    Hugs,
    Laura

  11. I agree with you it is so much better to wait a few weeks to plant. That way you don't have to plant again!

  12. I'm anxious to start planting too. In my area we have to wait until May. We have also been purging, it really does feel good. All three planters are gorgeous.

  13. Oh, I hope you share your planters once they are done. I fear I might lose some of my lilies and hostas this year...we are having freeze warnings, which is normal this time of year. The problem was it has been so unusually warm that so many of my flowers are up. I totally understand why you want to wait. Our rule here in Iowa typically is to wait until after Mother's Day because of freezes.

  16. Love the pictures! Wish I had a pretty garden! Maybe this year. Our summers are so hot, though, it makes it hard to grown anything. So fun to get things done - and to read!

  17. Ricki Jill, Nel is a book lover, and I am going to ask her if she read these books. They sound interesting. I think my favorite is the pastel combination. They look just like spring.
