Fireplace Show and Tell Party

Donna @ An Anglo in Quebec is hosting a Fireplace Show and Tell Party. I must REALLY LIKE Donna to participate because our mantel is a touchy subject around here.  So this post is about what NOT to do with the hearth of your home.  Donna is hosting this party because she is building a fireplace in her adorable Canadian cottage.  And she needs one because she has SNOW ON THE GROUND!  {Bless her heart.}

Here are some photos of our fireplace:

Our mantel Christmas 2010.  Yep, the ugly black box wastes precious wall space where I could hang art.

I used Benjamin Moore metallic paint to highlight the fireplace wall before Mr. Art @ Home decided to hang a TV there.  So now the metallic paint highlights the TV!  :/

The fireplace surround is Alabama white marble, and the inset tiles are MacKenzie-Childs.  It is a wood burning fireplace with gas start.

If you already have a post of about your fireplace, please link it up to give Donna some design ideas..or what NOT to do....either way, she will appreciate it.  Or you can write a new post (whatever works for you).  And while you are over there, check out her cottage kitchen.  It is one of the prettiest kitchens in blogland.

Until next time...

Blessings!
Ricki Jill

  1. I always think of you when I pass by the Mackenzie Childs department at Neiman Marcus :)

Well I am on the boat with Ms Tori Spelling, a room is not complete without a tv ;)

Horrible I know but I am addicted and always have been to my tv. My bedroom is off balance because of the way our flat screen has to sit. LOL
Don't have a fireplace, but I know I would have the same issue if we did.
    Take care

  2. I love what you did. I so wished we had a mantle. Your room looks lovely.

  3. The black box is a TV? Oh, my, I understand your feelings about it. You must have had pressure from without.... It appears too high for comfortable watching anyway, right? Perhaps you could build on a TV room? Renovate the basement? The rest of the room is so beautiful!

  5. Even though you may not like the TV, the room looks beautiful despite it! I'm cracking up over the fact that you have "Wasted Spaces" on the TV! lol

  7. I had forgotten that was your mantel (you rarely show it on your blog), but that is how I found your blog - from a Christmas linky party showing your mantel decorations. I love the tiles you used. The TV is certainly a necessary evil, isn't it. We don't have ours on the fireplace, but it is on a cabinet right beside the fireplace. sigh.

  8. Aaaaaaaaaah! I think those tiles are what I had in mind a few months ago for our mantel.....before I did 1" square glass ones a few weeks ago! W have a big half circle window above our fireplace that gives us a view of...our neighbor's roof...ugh!

  9. Hi RJ! Oh, what a nice mantle and you really do know how to decorate around your TV. Love your pretty candlesticks.
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;)
