Our Updated Dining Room

Photobucket

Our dining room's new look

We repurposed our antique armoire from our dining to use as storage in the art studio.  We made a few changes to the dining room, and I want to share those changes with you.

Our dining room before, with armoire

Our space is small: only 12'7"  X 11'8".  I like that we no longer have a large piece of furniture in here.  Our room barely seats six, but now there is plenty of room to walk around the table during mealtime with everyone seated.

We moved the plate rack from our living room to the dining room.  I like it in here.  It is a custom piece we ordered years ago from Maine Cottage Furniture, and we chose French Blue for the paint. We placed a Mosaicwares breakfast nook beneath it.

Opposite the plate rack and breakfast nook is our Mosiacwares butler's tray table.

We also hung our daughters' portraits in the dining room.  They were both in different rooms before. The portraits are pastels drawn by Jean Reasoner Plunket.

So what do you think?  Is it too minimalist for your taste?  I think I like the space.  The art studio is very cozy, and the dining room will not be a distraction ;P

  1. I am actually a lover for minimalist yet elegant designs Ricki. And your new dining room is love love love! The white dining chairs look so posh. I love the white and cream based paint on the wall, while it is being accentuated by just enough colorful pieces. The color of your plate rack comes in my favorite color. I super love it. I would love to dine in your simple yet so elegant dining room!

  13. Oh Jill, What a pretty dining room! I love everything that you did to it. I don't think it looks minimalist at all. I believe in less is best. It makes the room look clean, uncluttered, and very chic. You definitely have an eye for design.

  22. Your dining room is gorgeous! I love a minimalist style. I love the glass top dining table and the chairs are lovely covered white. I also love the art on the walls. I love it......If I were to start over I would love this style, but at my age its a little late with all my furnishings. Your art studio is fabulous. I love how your converted your armoire to store your art supplies. The way you arranged the furniture gives you plenty of space to work. I've been waiting to see the surprise from your hubby. Wow, he has great taste and I think its a perfect touch for your space. How sweet was that......It looks a lot like MacKenzie-Childs and maybe it is since I see a lot of it there. I love it too......Your creative art talents shine in your home!
Great room redo.......Have a great weekend

  29. Really pretty. I really love the art. Jealous of the natural light. We have a teeny tiny dining room with nary a window (due to an addition to the house). It is a cave!

And the plate rack...i'll be borrowing that idea for sure!
